Most stores require photo identification. Otherwise, you could just say that you're the person, and there would be no way to prove or disprove the veracity of your claim.
most stores Ive been to judge your age based on sight tbh, but yea in my experience a school ID would work better then a permit as they USUALLY have your picture on them.
