If this turns out to be true, this could be a good step in the franchise. After the disaster that came from Duke Nukem Forever, I am inclined to give this new game a chance if it's done correctly and properly. I'm hoping that it's not a bad game whatsoever.

Certainly an odd direction to take the franchise. I still think it's possible to make a good Duke Nukem FPS in this day and age. Then again, given the series' penchant for humor, this could just be an elaborate ruse, and the next Duke game will actually be an FPS.

This hole "Action RPG" thing needs go the f#ck away.

They take the Wrong Elements from RPGs, and then to add insult to injury they execute these elements poorly.

Only certain action RPGs do well when done properly. Let's just hope they do amazing things with Duke Nukem, now that it's apparently going to be launched into the action-RPG stratosphere.

I just cannot visualize Duke Nukem fitting into an RPG. It would be like Fifa 15 being an FPS or something. In the article, I posted something like how can you level up Duke Nukem? He's pretty set and experienced isn't he? That's what makes him Nukem. They should try and get it right in the land of FPS before attempting another genre. Although, it could be a massive parody fest which would be great.

the duke nukem i know sticks to first person shootin' and making off color remarks in even less clever ways than the characters that said them first.

A top down action RPG? It lost me right there.

Personally I don't give a shit. Duke was a product of his time and that time has passed decades ago.

Oh its going to do well all right, people are suckers for leveling up and power fantasies and "choices".

My concern is with the game's balance, this is always a problem.

They took Duke to other game genres before. Like the 3rd person Tomb Raider like games for the Playstation. I'd love it if they did another run n gun platform game like the first games and Manhattan Project. MP was so damn great.

I'd rather have played Interceptor's Duke 3D remake. They did a great job on Rise of the Triad. It's a shame this IP is being run by the asshats over at Gearbox now

Gearbox made that looting Sh!tfest, Borderlands right ?

If they're putting their hands on Duke then I'm seriously concerned about what RPG Elements to expect.

Gearbox own the IP now, this is by Interceptor Entertainment who had been working on "Duke Nukem Reloaded" a remake of Duke 3D, until Gearbox bought the IP and shut them down literally because it made Duke Nukem Forever look even worse.

The new game might be decent, Interceptor have a whole bunch of talented staff that "get" Duke Nukem, but still I'd love a good Duke style FPS

Can't say I disagree. It would definitely had been fun playing it in coop as well.

Staff consisting of only 3, wasn't it? I remember it was originally supposed to be free too.

As far as I know there were 30 people working on Duke Nukem Reloaded at one point, I'm pretty sure it was 30, they've mentioned it a few times in their podcasts but yeah the plan was to make it free as well.

Yes, they made it, but I wouldn't call it a "looting Shitfest". It's one of the best series ever made in the current-gen and yes, I'm looking forward to BL3.

I was one of the few people who didnt mind Duke nukem forever, it was a fun nifty little game, In saying that I'd still only score it like a 6 maybe, but it was still fun. So looks like a new and improved Duke game may actually be good you say? well lets hope!

Well, everything must be better than Duke Nukem Forever surely, no matter who weird the genre choice may be. Also, it might turn out to be like Fallout 3 or Borderlands both of which have RPG elements but are a blast to play, so there you go, it could be all good

The thing with RPGs is you can make a shitty game and it could still be a great RPG.

For example, Fallout 3

Actually, it could work very well as a double thumbstick shooter w/ leveling. I'd certainly play it.

It looks like Lara Croft and The Guardian Of Light on Experimental Steroids the FDA would never approve in a million years. And According to gamespot, it got alil repetitive. Probably becasuse of the stupid RPG trope, where you level up then you encounter stronger enemies, so you level up some more then you encounter even stronger enemies and on and on..... Its an Uninpiring way to fake variety and depth. What you want is Progression like Arkham City, Any new move or gadget you aquire doesn't increase you stats, it just a brand new toy to play and experiment with, I new mechanic to mastet, same with Devil May Cry aswell.

The Art of Progression is getting extremely lazy these days.

I think shoddy level up mechanics appeal to people with, who feel they have not made enough progress in real life, so they satisfy that need through leveling up, no matter how tedious.

@Lulu_Lulu: Double whammy of stupid posts. Not every leveling system is tedious, stop pretending so. On the other hand, what IS tedious is your ridiculous quest to convince everyone that no game should ever have stats. I've got stats for you: after 3511 posts in 8 months, you've convinced a total of 0 gamers.

@ ReddestSkies

Only a thousand of those posts were for RPGs, and even then only a fraction of that was about the level up mechanics.

Anyway, I never said leveling up is tedious (I may have thought, and It might be true, but I never I actually said that..... Yet), I said Shoddy Level up mechanics are tedious. But ofcourse being mama bear and all and RPGs as your babies you think its perfect and tear the head off anybody whos got anything bad to say about it.

Also in the History of Action games adopting RPG Elements, none have actually managed to merge the two conepts properly.

@Lulu_Lulu: I don't even play a lot of RPGs, and I hate grinding.

And good job at managing to make another absolutely ridiculous statement in your last sentence. Yep, every single action game with stats ever made did it wrong.

Bring it. I actually enjoyed Duke Nukem Forever for what it was (an archaic game that was stuck in development hell for nearly 12 years) and even bought the single player DLC.

Like others have mentioned, Duke has branched out in other genres before. Hell, the franchise actually started out as a 2D platformer before it became an FPS with its 3rd installment.
