Since we had the most iconic characters thread, it was quite a coincidence that they made this video :P
I agree with all on the list, and I'd add the Pacman walking sound (it appears in the video but not the list). But I can't think of any more to be honest.

What do you think of the list? And which would you add?

inb4jigglywigglysaysfatal1ty In all seriousness, the PS1 start up sound for me; just brings back a flood of nostalgia. I agree with the list with the exception of Mario Kart, they could have chosen a better one like the Final Fantasy level up.

really did not agree with #5 on that list the rest was easily agreeable

That is a good list but five is too few, if you ask me. Here is some I would add:

1. Game Boy start-up chime

2."You win... Perfect!" from the Street Fighter II.

3. Sound when Mario dies in Super Mario Brothers.

4. Gannon laughing on the game over screen in Zelda II.

5. "Nuclear Launch Detected" in Starcraft.

6. Weird noise you here when you get a tetris on Game Boy Tetris.

That sound when Sonic is about to drown. Still scares the sh!t outta me,

Isn't that the same as the coin sound in Mario?

There's a distinct lack of non-console games in the list.

I'd say the lurking imp noise in Doom should be right up there.

The terrifying wail that tells you there's a fast zombie nearby in Half Life 2.

Erm.. that's all i've got right now. I'll come back.

I say #5 needs to be replaced with the sound that enemies make in Doom when they're shot

FINISH HIM - Mortal Kombat

FATALITY - Mortal Kombat

FIGHT - Any fighting game, but mostly Mortal Kombat

Super Mario OST - Mario games

They didn't include them in the list but they played a few at the end of the video. Including PS1, GB, GC, etc. Also agree with the Finish Him

Nevermind the first part, I just read the post again and I mis-read what you said.

Agreed. For that I'd add the Half-Life/2 menu sound; the sound that results from switching through and selecting stuff.

Very, very similar. The Game Boy chime is higher in pitch though.

Some more PC ones:

"Mein Leben!" from Wolfenstein 3D.

Construction sound from SimCity 2000.

Sound of a function key clacking so you can boot directly into MS DOS.
