Well I don't have the money for an XBOX 360 or a Playstation 3, and the fact you could get brand new Playstation 2 games so cheap tempted me.

Just bought a brand new fatty Playstation 2, a spare controller, 2 memory cards, GTA 3, Metal Gear Solid 3, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Lord of the Rings Return of the King, Lego Star Wars 2, Burnout 3 & James Bond Nightfire.

I'm really excited to get them actually.

Few questions for everyone.. last time I played on a Playstation 2, I had a small box telly. I've now got a 32 inch flatscreen. How will the Playstation 2 handle the telly? Also, is there any recommendations on what games I should buy?

I'm going to complete the games I have before I get some more, but a few good suggestions would be nice!

PS2 looks fine on a 36' to me so you should be good. Good game choices, here are some more I'd recommend: Devil May Cry series Disgaea I and II Fatal Frame series Final Fantasy series(PS1 or PS2) Growlanser Generations Mega Man Anniversary and X Collections Metal Gear Solid 2 Ratchet and Clank series Resident Evil 4 Sega Genesis Collection Shin Megami Tensei/Persona series Sly Cooper series Spider-Man series Suikoden III and V Twisted Metal Black Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner And since PS2 can play them I'll also add some PS1 games: You'll need a PS1 memory card for these Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Colony Wars series Crash Bandicoot series(only the PS1 games, PS2 ones aren't as good) Dino Crisis 1-2 Lunar series Metal Gear Solid Resident Evil series There's a lot more I could list but I'll stick with that.

Awesome system. The best one ever created IMO. But you better buy ps2 games while gamestop still sells them. Once they stop selling them, they will get more expensive and rare to find, unles you buy them over the internet. But the ps2 will look fine on that tv. I have a 27'' flatscreen and it looks fine. I hope you are a rpg fan because ps2 has a huge rpg library.

Game suggestions: BLACK, Killzone, Tales of the Abyss, Rogue Galaxy, Dragonquest 8, Splinter Cell Double Agent, Soul Calibur 2 & 3, Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero, Persona 3 & 4, FF 10, Tenchu Wrath of Heaven, Onimusha 2 & Dawn of Souls, God of War 1 & 2, Lord of the Rings the Third Age, Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus, Zone of the Enders 1 & 2 (if you can find them, they are pretty rare), FF 7-2 Dirge of Cerberus, Star Ocean Till the End of Time.....there is just so many more I can't even think of them all.

O and I forgot to suggest Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1 & 2, DBZ Budokai 3, and DBZ Tenkaichi 3. These games are fun and very good fighting games even if you aren't a DBZ fan.

The PS2 will look great on the HDTV, given two things - your TV upscales a 480 signal well enough, and you get component cables. For the love of GOD, get component cables. RCA's will be okay, but the picture will suffer horribly, and some text might be next to impossible to read. As for game recommendations, there are way to many to speak of! Let's just say you've now gained access to what is still THE best library of games made for any console, hands-down. No worries, you'll find lots to keep you busy. Sounds like you have a good start already. LOVED Nightfire, thought it was criminally under-rated.

Definitely get some components cables. Do NOT get s-video cables. Make sure they are component. You'll get 5 connectors to plug into the TV (3 for video, 2 for audio) with component cables. The day I bought my PS2, which was around 1 year after launch, I bought a few of the "must have" games: Final Fantasy X, Grand Theft Auto 3 and Gran Turismo 3. I'd definitely recommend these as a starting point as they are all classics.

Excellent decision! The PS2 is by far my favorite console ever, mostly because it literely has hundreds of great games for it, and yes, most are very affordable currently. I play my PS2 on a 32" first gen flat screen and it looks great. I've seen PS2s hooked up to TVs with 1080p and they seem to look about the same imo.

Hopefully you have a good used game store near you. Gamestop/EBgames are beginning to not sell PS2 games. You will enjoy PS2. composite cables should give you the best picture possible for you 32 inche television. All the games people have mentioned are good ones.

as for the flatscreen, i'd recommend component cables. the image is a little sharper, a bit more colorful, and 480p support for some games...downsides: noticable scanlines(cuz most games are 480i), its not a huge problem considering the benefits but it happens almost everytime an image fades to black. it also doesn't support ps1 games, which sucks but you can just switch back to a composite cable.

edit:inmyopinion, ps2 looks best on tube tvs.

There are soooo many.

One somewhat obscure but great, game would be Gladius. Really run turn-based combat with some RPG elements. Underappreciated in my mind.
