In your Opinion, What is the best video game ending of all time?

My vote is firmly for Red Dead Redemption,

[spoiler] I actually cried when John Marston died, I have had games make me sad before, even shed a tear, but I cried at RDR'send, John was a wretch, tried to redeme himself early , bu the feds made him go on a killing spree to "clear the path for modernity", and afterwards he seemed to find the peaceful farmer's life he seeked, but, the final criminal of the Van Der Lyn gang wasJohn himself, and it was clear that the feds wanted the gang erradicated COMPLETELY, so John was gunned down, I cried then, but felt EPIC satisfaction after John's death, playing his son Jack years later, hunting down the head Fed that killed John and emptying my revolver chamber in his face via the games toughest duel. It was like seeing the best Movie Western Ending EVER, but playing through it myself! [/spoiler]

RDR has one of the better ones. Dino Crisis 2 had an amazing ending. All of the Metal Gear Solids. GOW3 had a pretty underrated ending I thought. Vanquish most recently had quite the godly ending, but not story-wise of course, as that was rubbish. I'm talking about how [spoiler] you take the final boss' gun from him and kill him with it in first person. And of course the end credits. [/spoiler] Both were sooooo badass. I could never pick out a favorite, as there's just so many great ones. inFamous, Bioshock, Devil May Cry 3, Silent Hill 2-3, etc. The list goes on and on.

Torment, no question. Everything about it was beautiful and that isn't a word I use lightly. Literally facing your own demon's and ultimately either dying to see release from the hundreds of lifetimes or seek atonement in the Brood War that will rage on for the rest of the now-mortal Nameless Ones' life and beyond.

metal gear solid 3 and 4, i bet there won't be an ending like that for a while, ff viii was really good too if people bothered to actually try and understand it

The new medal of honor ending was amazing

Both Mass Effect endings were trully epic, especially the first one's imo. GTA IV also had a very strong ending, not the classic "they lived happily ever after" ending. Also, I hate that Ubisoft left us with a cliffhanger for 7 years and counting(Beyond Good and Evil)

Heavenly Sword's ending was pretty badass.

Enslaved had a deeply disturbing, but great ending

I think both Bioshock games had pretty good endings. It's not often I come across a decent game ending now though; so many games leave a frustrating cliff-hanger in preparation for the sequel. :evil:

No Super Metroid?!?!?!?! Blasphemy!! :evil: Bar none the best ending I've ever seen in a game. Notable mention: PoP: The Sands of Time, KoToR.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Ending(last game to make me cry)

King of Fighters 1995 - Rival Team Ending(where my hatred for Iori Yagami began... for what he did to Billy Kane grrrr

King of Fighters 2000 - Benimaru Team Ending

King of Fighters 1996 - Boss Team Ending

Snake Eater has the absolute best ending of any video game, bar none. It was absolutely phenomenal -- well edited, moving, superb cinematography -- the whole package. This was the ending that made me think Hideo Kojima could have been the Spielberg of video games. Then Metal Gear Solid 4 came out, and I realized the whole thing was just a lucky fluke for the man.

Still, better to end up a has-been than a never-was. Whatever depths of the man's soul he was able to mine, Snake Eater is absolutely classic in that I think there were elements of Kojima's soul in it; that rare creative flashpoint between genius and shark jumping. I'd liken it to Stephen King's Father Callahan character while holding Barlow at bay finding the power of his faith literally pouring out of the cross he held and THRUMMING up his arm because he BELIEVED, and that light fading as his faith waned. That's how different MGS3 felt from MGS4. The two titles are a study in FAITH and LOSS.

Braid and Shadow of the Colossus have the most powerful endings I have seen in gaming. Ironically both of them are open to interpretation but they're the only two games that really got some emotion out of me.

I hated absolutely everything about RDR's story... I thought it and the ending was probably the worst and most contrived I've ever come across in a game.

The best endings I've come across in gaming are as follows:

Shadow of the Colossus ~ incredibly moving, and extraordinarily subtle
Prince of Persia [2008] ~ not allowing the player to choose, while giving them the ability to freely choose through the game was very striking
Odin Sphere ~ Very moving, and a solid end to a fantastic story
Minecraft ~ ssssSSSSSSS BOOM!

Both BioShock games had great endings that really influence how you play.

prince of persia sands of time , warrior within and two thrones had awesome endings the worst ending has to be prince of persia 4 thats the worst ending ever.Kills any chance of a sequal.

The ending of Mass Effect 1 and 2 were amazing, I also enjoyed the ending of the new MoH game, which I thought was a very under rated game of this year, story wise.

I believe metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill were the first games I played that actually dramatic endings as well as multiple.

How was it predictable or contrived that after the game hinted a "little house on the prairie" esque ending would end up with John (in a very gorey manner) being gunned down, and how was it contrived or unoriginal that you would come back as your son and what was disguised as post-game free roam was actually a chance to kill your father's murderer.

P.S. How could you not love John Marston? He's one of my favorite characters.

The MGS 4 ending was my favorite. Kojima ended the series in an incredible and very unique way. Other developers can try, but none can do it like Kojima and that's a fact. wazzmalo
