Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil. The only 4 games I can think of where I really followed the stories. It's not like I don't know what's going on in most games, or I skip the stories out where ever possible. It's just those were the only really interesting ones.

Probably Tales of Symphonia, even though it was confusing at times, the story was very well done.

Snatcher (Sega CD) and Grim Fandango (PC) are both obviously on that list. Soon enough, we English speaking peoples will soon be able to add Kojima's Policenauts to that list. Word.

I'm going to have to go with the N64 and Gamecube Zelda games. While the story-telling in Zelda games are generally less explicite and intricate compared to, say, the Final Fantasy games, I felt more intimately drawn into the world in all four games. The visuals, music, narrative, gameplay, and characters all come together so cohesively and impressively in those games. I found myself inserting thoughts and feelings, filling in the unexpressed gaps in the narrative... I don't know really how to explain it... those four Zeldas just did things right.

::edit::
Oi, above poster, this is the "legacy platform" board. Don't go mentioning Grim Fandango while I, Mr. Aware, am restricted to console games.

Grim Fandango was developed for Windows 98. Show of hands for those running Windows 98 for purposes OTHER than classic gaming? If your logic were applicable, the Apple II isn't a legacy platform either. I guess I'll just go do the day to day, you know, a little bit of disk-based operating system work, maybe I'll try out that killer app Telnet. Hahaha. While you may be Mr. Aware, I am Mr. Astute. Ho! You say, but astute and aware are synonyms, but I beg to differ. Look closer! Then deal with the fact that you suck.

To talk of Halo on the Xbox 360 forum is to discussing Grim Fandango on the PC & Mac forum. Seriously now, 1+1=2.

So, now that we can assume my logic kicks yours in the balls, what PC games would you choose, Mr. Observant?

"Any discussion from the Pippin to the Atari 2600, the SNES to the PS2 is completely welcome here."
I don't see where Windows 98 fits.

Anyways, for PC I'd prolly go with Full Throttle or Grim Fandango, or most any other good adventure game over most any other genre of game. Not very fair since they're all story ^^.

We have PC board. There is no Windows Vista board. Simple as that. Ho! Owned!

Not quite? I mean...what do I say to that? Does saying owned validate assertions? How logical can you be when you use incorrect grammar any way? Yes. There is a forum for every modern platform. That is, the Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC/Mac. Then, there is one "legacy" forum. This "legacy" forum can incorporate every PC/Mac based gaming platform and everything in between. Do you need a comprehensive list? From the Apple I and II, to the MSX, C. Amiga(s), and eventually the IBM standard running various operating systems, these are all valid "legacy" platforms for gaming. Once again, the "PC/Mac" forum pertains to modern gaming, as do the other primary platform forums. Does actual logic allude you? Or does your concept of logic equate with legitimizing your assumptions? I'm sorry, but you're simply incorrect; reason and logic validate my assertions, so how about that son?

I deleted that post immediately after typing it because I realized it was a stupid argument. Anyways, I think it's generally understood that this forum is for old consoles (so as not to flood the other forums) and the PC forum is for all PC games. Discuss whatever you wish, and forgive idle comments.

If you go back to Grim Fandango or many other games designed for 98, most of them fall somewhere between PS1 and PS2 graphically, so I would consider 98 the most recent addition to classic PC platforms. Just because something is assumed or generally understood does not make it correct. In the PC forum, that is not generally understood: discussion of classic PC gaming simply doesn't exist in that forum. Anyway, it was fun arguing at 5 am ;)

Dark Cloud and FFVI. FFVII falls short as I don't think it has that great of a story, it's more about the presentation and execution of it.

I think most of the games I've listed have great storylines, except maybe Tales of the Abyss. XD Even though I didn't add them on my list, I think Siren and Silent Hill 1 & 2 have great storylines, ....the former being my favorite.

Personally, my favorite has to be Moon: Remix RPG Adventure, because you won't find a game with an storyline like the one in that game anywhere else.

They're closing in on Beta as we "speak". It seems like a Q1/Q2 release of the patch is possible, provided no major hurdles pop up (which does seem to happen with PSX games). My sig is a link!

In terms of purely engrossing story I would have to say Tales of Symphonia, Final Fantasy IV and VII.

I haven't played through Final Fantasy VI but I hear that has an amazing story as well.

While lots of the old games listed by people are some of my favorites if the question is about the most engrossing stories then i couldnt really say anything on a 32 bit system ever had that great a story. All the RPGs used the same basic clich'e, the evil empire, the hero, the hero needing to collect things which the empire of evil is also hunting down etc. I guess for me at this point now after having played through so many games the only real stories that really stick out for me now are the metal gear solid series and final fantasy 8, 10. FFX in my opinion having the best story of any game in recent memory.
