I don't think this is a fair comparison.
The Witcher 3 is a masterpiece, and one of the best games of the past decade.
Fallout 4 is just another Bethesda game - I played it for about 30 hours, had no feelings towards it at all, put it down, and never went back to it.
After playing both, I'm giving a landslide victory to The Witcher 3. Fallout 4 is not a bad game. It's actually good...but it's only good. The Witcher 3 is magnificent from beginning to end.
Fallout 4 by a land slide.
Witcher 3 is decent but for me fallout 4 is just better and has a more appealing gameplay.
But that is also because the whole middle age gameplay never has had any appeal to me.
So i am looking forward to cyperpunk 2077 to see if they can transfer what people liked about witcher 3 into a modern setting.
Fallout 4 had shallow story, dialogue, the map was largely boring with nothing interesting in it. The crafting system was pointless garbage. There were like 10 guns in the entire game which were just recycled with different mods on them.
Biggest disappointment this gen for me.
I don't care. I've spent a similar amount of time on both at this point and I've had a similar amount of fun. They're great games.
I like both though I prefer 'TW3.
If we go which has better story and etc. 'TW3' if we go which one I shall replay more then 'FO4' because I'm able to actually make my character, guess that is why. Still you know what is luck...you can play 'TW3' just fine while playing 'FO4' and here is why:
Geralt Mod
Yennefer/Triss Mod
Now we just need someone to NAIL Ciri's look and we got 'TW3' in 'FO4' xD
Fallout 4 without a doubt. For one thing, Fallout 4 has fun combat. That's a very important element in a game. CD Projekt Red has proven through three games in a row that they have no idea whatsoever how to do a combat system that's even remotely fun. The Witcher 1 in particular has the worst combat I've ever seen in a game. The Witcher 3 admittedly has improved combat, but I would still put its combat far beneath Assassin's Creed, let alone the amazingly fun combat in Fallout 4.
Fallout 4 also has much, much better movement and exploration. It's a great joy to get a jetpacked equipped suit of power armor and start flying around from building to building. The Witcher 3 has a beautiful world but exploring it is pretty average at best.
Witcher 3 is my GOY 2015. The best RPG since Sykrim in my opinion. I still like Fallout 4 though. I think I'm a bit oversaturated with post-apocalyptic scenarios. I liked the dark fantasy approach of Witcher 3. I'm really excited for CD Project Red's next game.
The "best" in regards to what? I have and love both for two completely different reasons. I love Witcher 3 for it's writing, narrative, and characters and Fallout 4 for it's autonomous, dynamic game play and it's focus on exploration. Each one completely satisfies a totally different part of my brain. How on Earth could I even begin to compare the two in an effort to answer so silly a question lol?
Played Fallout 4 (good game) maybe 80 hours and have barely gone back. Played Witcher 3 on my first playthrough for almost 200 hours, beat a ton of side quests and went back for more on new game +.
Witcher 3 easily. Better story, characters, world, graphics, and soundtrack. Whether it's the main campaign or the side missions, the narrative is just so good. And don't even get me started on the greatness of the expansion that was Hearts of Stone. That alone is better than Fallout 4 in my opinion.
@Pedro: Unrewarding?
I agree that The Witcher 3 is a slow-burn, where you won't see the consequences of your actions for potentially another 20-30 hours...but the game still *does* provide interesting and compelling consequences for tons of different quests.
I actually find it to be really rewarding in the long-term. Unlike Fallout 4, for example, where every quest is the same and none of the rewards are worthwhile.
