Ever tried to play through the whole series of a game franchise? As a sort of gaming marathon, if you like.

So.

Have you ever tried to play the whole series through, when it comes to game franchises?

And I mean play them as a one long gaming 'marathon', so that you do not play other games in between.

For example, decided to play through all GTA games in the right order, or all Final Fantasy games, or maybe all of the Halo games?

And if you have, did you manage to play through all of the games? Or did you give up half way through?

***

Only series I did this was Mass Effect, before MEA came out. With only three games, the marathon did not take that long, only lasting about few weeks.

Would be fun to do Tomb Raider marathon, since I have pretty much every game there. Would have to figure the correct chronological order first, tho.

I've done full series marathons with Mega Man, Ace Attorney, and Yakuza. The Mega Man one, I got through most of them, and I was completely successful with Ace Attorney and Yakuza (this one took around a year). I've also done smaller marathons with Sonic as well, focusing on different eras.

Halo, done it about 3 times.

Gears of war, twice

Kingdom hearts, once

I'll do it if there's a direct sequel or I just feel like playing the series agian, but I don't really do it with sequels that aren't direct from the first.

Oh, I did Uncharted marathon before U4 came out. Played thru the remasters, and then went on to U4. Good fun. I hope they make sequel.

Plenty of times, but depends if I think a whole series holds up. Usually cut out spin-offs as well_

Example, when I replay DMC series I would cut out DMC2 because it's garbage, and painful enough the first time.

I guess so. No major franchises spanning decades though. More like franchises with 2 or 3 games in them like Shenmue and Half Life.

@henrythefifth:

I've done it before. Sticking with the game is the hard part because some sequels sucked.

Mass Effect Trilogy - done 5x

Tomb Raider Legend Trilogy - done several times

Batman Arkham Trilogy - done twice

Crash Trilogy - done once

Tomb Raider Reboot Trilogy - not attempted

Red Dead Redemption - stopped at RDR1

Ive done Uncharted, which was hella fun to do, and I would do it again, it helps that the games are relatively short. and Ive also done Assassins Creed, before Origins came out.

Well worth it. I got into Arkhams pretty late, but they turned out to be brilliant games on last gen. And Arkham Knight is really good too.

Yeah, I run through whole series fairly often but when I do I cut out the garbage games.

So for example, I run through contra just about every year, but don't bother with the crap ps1 games or garbage like contra force. So I will typically play

Contra, Super C, Contra 3, hard corps, operation c, contra 4, contra rebirth, and sometimes the shattered soldier

Other series I like to run through every so often:

1) Last year I played through mega man 1-10 to get hyped for 11's release, never having enough mega man, after beating 10 I played through a bunch of fan games as well

2) Linear castlevania series, I never run the whole series but I will typically play through the linear 2d games, so I will play through 1, 3, 4, bloodlines, chronicles, x, and rondo. I have added a playthrough of bloodstained: curse of the moon to my castlevania runs since it is basically a new castlevania game in my eyes. I will also typically add in one non-linear game with my playthrough, last year I did aria of sorrow.

3) Punch out series...I just wish there were a few more games in the series

4) FInal Fight

5) Streets of rage

6) Console double dragons, (including neon and 4) + the arcade original

I'm currently mulling over doing a run of every battletoads game, just not sure if I'm emotionally ready for it.
