I do think its brilliant, except for Co-Op, Its definetly the best COD game ever imo. The story is amazing and isn't completely over the top and the multiplayer is balanced and fun.
COD 4 is a good game, killstreaks are balanced (save for a glitch that gets you killstreaks via airsupport after you have died), there is a good amount of weapons and I like most maps for that game.
Although I only played it for a weekend it left good impressions on me. I don't know what the hell happened with Modern Warfare 2, and why it came out to be such an unbalanced game with horrid maps.
COD2 was the last good campaign and COD4 was the last good MP and it's been a steady decline in overall quality ever since. IWis just a shelland Treyarchstruggles to bemediocre, the series is for casuals and the fanboys. Battlefield3 FTW...

I own it on steam, and had it for my 360... kinda the same? Played more the 360 version. Anyway the game was amazing when it came out. I finished the campaign, which is something I couldn't do in other cod games. Great visuals for it's time, and superb audio. It was the standard for online games at it's time. Fast forward 4 years and it's impact, good or bad has been huge on the gaming industry. I wouldn't say i liked it more than Battlefield 2 or Counter Strike, but it's in my top 10 shooters.
It's certainly an enjoyable game and not undeserving of all its popularity. It's made a permanent mark on the FPS genre, though I'm not sure if all of this is for the best. I still get the impression that it's a multiplayer game first and the single player is just there to flesh it out. The single player mode is still decent and enjoyable, but a bit short and bare in parts for my liking, I'd like to see future releases to have much more focus on single player.
Whether people hate it or not, the first Modern Warfare is a very good game and revolutionary...at the time, I might add. Although I like Black Ops, I didn't really like Modern Warfare 2. Black Ops was different enough to stand out, but I think Activision is milking the series a little too much. Whether it'll fall off the map like Guitar Hero is still wait to be seen. I personally think people will get tired of it after Modern Warfare 3 and it won't reach the same sales as Black Ops did.
It's good, but a bad omen for FPS's. after this game, campaigns were forsaken for multiplayer. Homefront, Halo Reach, BFBC2, and Crysis 2 are perfect examples and this trend needs to stop now!
