This is a trend that has been going on for years but recently have become the acceptable "norm," especially in online discussion threads.

The scenario is:

A review of a game comes out. Some people love it, some people don't, some people couldn't care less, etc.

Then when it comes to the comment threads, you'll have people voicing their opinions on the game and what is so amazing or what is so horrible about it. Then it becomes a heated argument and people calling names, making threats, and claiming they can spell 20 different styles of martial arts and have been doing it for 50 years (even though most of them are about 16 years old).

Anyway, back on topic. I just want to discuss how we may be able to classify the types of "forumers." (I know, I made that word up) So far I have:

The Opinionator: A person who is simply voicing his/her opinion on the game and what he or she like/dislike about it. Can get a little carried away sometimes with the praise or criticism but understandable due to the passion involved. I, personally, don't mind this type because they stick to talking about the game and NEVER attack the other people involved in the discussion.

The Keyboard Warrior: The person who disagrees without someone else's opinions. But instead of making a case as to why they disagrees and talk about the game in question. They attack and threat the PERSON on the other end of the line by "yelling" incoherent and irrelevant thoughts such as, "You should die because you dislike the thing I like." or, "If we ever meet in real lifeI will kick your butt with my 20 different styles of karate I can spell."

The Fanboy: This person pretty much worships the game/system in question. To them, it is perfect/best/infallible item ever created by mankind, alienkind, or any kind. They will zealously guard and protect this item by any means necessary. Examples include insults, threats, random statements and facts, angry emotes...so on. They will go out of their way to attack anyone who dares to even mention the slightest dislike to this item they worship. Actions includes stalking the person they dislike, looking up profiles and reading bio's so they can get an idea for insults, follow the person they disagree with to every single threads just to insert statements that, to them, make sense. And we all know the rest of the story.

What other type of "forumer" have you encountered. You can include, jerk/smartass who thinks she's better than everyone and making a discussion about other people. :)

To conclude this little fun story. I would like to add this image:

Anyway I'm pretty slick.... I know exactly how the 3rd type of Forumer's are.... You don't even need to attack Fanboys..... just attack whatever it is they like so much and they just go bonkers..... see TC.... its not that simple.... sometimes you can attack someone without actually attacking them....

Although its their fault.... if you like something stupid you deserve whatever's coming to ya.

I think you pretty much covered most of the types! I always try to maintain a balanced and respectful perspective, so I guess I would be considerd an opinionator!

I just don't see how a rational thinking person could become combative over a disagreement on the internet or in real life.

Respect people whether they agree with you or not....live and let live.

@torenojohn7:
They keyboard warrior will tend to just stay in the thread currently being discussed and yell angry incoherent statements such as, "Go pick up a rock and smash it on your face." Sometimes, they will go as far as claiming to know some ninja style of martial art and have been practicing for 100 years and will defeat you if you were to ever meet in real life. Often times, they lose sight of why they're even arguing and just argues for the sake of winning the argument.

A fanboy will actually go and look up someone's bio and previous discussion thread to make their best an attempt at insulting them base on those information. Their insults will have a little "kick" to it as they try to hit you where they think it hurts. They will also tend to hold a grudge and will follow you around every single forum just to insert a statement. They try to stay focus and defend whole hardheartedly the item they worship but often lose sight in a blind rage and just end up arguing just to win.

@torenojohn7:

Fanboys centre their bullshit around the things they like.... a Keyboard Warrior had no affiliations to anything they just like causing pain for shits and giggles.....

Well-said, that is precise. Couldn't have said it better myself.
