What top PS2 game(s) do you think can compare with the Gamecube or even near the Xbox best? That PS2 game(s) that you can look at, and put next to your Xbox and Gamecube games and say: "We did it." What are these worthy game in your opinion?
MGS3, I remember when I started playing I couldn't spot the enemies till I was right on top of them, sure soon enough i was pulling headshots from the hip across the scenario but thats not the point, point is its looked amazing :P
My overall vote would have to go to Jak II and 3, both games looked superb, had no loading screens, and ran at 60fps. Shadow of the Colossus looks best but runs at 15-25 fps.
What?!?!!? No love for Criterion games?!?!? Burnout 3 takedown Burnout Revenge BLACK All 3 ran at 60FPS. Takedown and Revenge supposedly looked better than the xbox port in sparks or particle effects or something. Also The Matrix Path of Neo which had advanced bump mapping or normal mapping. But the gameplay was meh. And Hitman contracts and Bloody Money. Which had HUGE open areas and even blood money had bump mapping.
Shadow of the Colossus, but has some minor frame rate problems from time to time. I think Burnout Revenge, MGS2 and 3, God of war 1 and 2, Gran Turismo 4, all look amazing. Black, Chaos theory, Resident Evil 4, look great but I didn't play them on ps2. Also, tekken 5, Ace Combat 04, Soul Calibur 2, and virtua fighter 4 also look pretty good.
Coming from a guy who doesn't own any 7th gen console, HDTV, or supercomputer, :P I have never seen graphics so crisp and clear as in Gran Turismo 4. It literally blew my mind. :D
Does it have to be realistic? Currently playing Dragon Quest VIII for the first time, and my god the style is pretty amazing by even today's standards.
As far as realistic goes, i'd have to go with Shadow of the Collosus for sure.
Gran Turismo 4 looks great if you hook your PS2 up to an HDTV using component cables, as it runs in 1080i. Final Fantasy XII also looks fantastic. The intro movie for Onimusha 3 was pretty mind blowing at the time as well.
grand turismo 4 is the only ps2 game that can really compare to the best looking gamecube and xbox game. yakuza 1 and 2 though as a game not yet mentioned that looked amazing for ps2
