The question is in the title. If you had to make a choice to play 1 game for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Mine would be:

I would probably have to say Destiny, even though i hate the state that the game is in right now. I understand that the game is not for everyone but i personally enjoy the mechanics and the loot system and is one of the only online shooters that i can constantly play and have fun
Probably Dragon Quest IX. It's not my favorite game ever (although it's pretty high on my top ten DS games list) but it's bursting with content. Just getting everyone to max level in each class alone would take forever, so it's a pretty solid desert island game for people like me who are in love with JRPGs.
Hate to say it, but probably WoW. I mean it was almost the only thing I played for like four years, anyway. WoW and TF2. Ahhhh college...wasted :(
I mean, if it's the only game I get to play for the rest of my life, it would have to be an online game.
But it would also have to have a mix of PvE (to satisfy my main requirement of being able to play solo or coop), but also PvP (for when I want to compete). Sure, I could play a shooter like TF2 or CS:GO or Battlefield, but that'd get old.
WoW also has longevity; people still play Diablo 2, I imagine people will be playing WoW well into 2030 as well. They also release constant updates, free and paid DLC, and so forth.
So yeah, it might not be my favorite game, but it is a game I could play forever provided the community lasts forever (and I imagine it will be around for atleast another decade or two). There's also a ton of content I have not seen (Have not played it since Lich King), and I never got into raiding, and iirc doing one raid takes pretty much half a day if not longer lol.
Minecraft
It's not my favourite game of all time but I can play it longer than do so fantasy vii
That would probably be my second choice, for similar reasons: not my favorite, but you can literally play it forever. Well, almost.
And if it's the only game I were to play, well, maybe I just might finish that castle I started building :P
Warcraft 3 with custom maps like Dota All Stars think i'll be good as long as long as I get an internet connection
Assuming that there will soon be a video game combining all of the video games that ever existed onto one disc... that one.
The obvious answer would be my fav game of all time, Half-Life 2.
But I think something like Civilization 5 would be best for the long term.
Max Payne 2 (my favorite game of all time) or Medieval 2: Total War (most addicting game I've ever played).
If online then battlefield 3
If not then timesplitters 2.
Id like to choose something with a story but repeating it again and again would definitely get boring fast.
Man, what a drag that would be. I guess I would go with Mount and Blade: Warband, or I would wait for Mount and Blade II before deciding.
Hum, I would go with either
Final Fantasy Taxtics ( PSOne )
Super Mario World ( SNES )
Bloodborne ( PS4 )
Persona 4 Golden ( Vita )
It would have to be one of the richer RTS or 4x options out there - story-based games I can only repeat so many times. But an RTS or turn-based strategy game with random maps and decent AI I could keep playing for longer than anything else (forever is a long time - I'm sure I'd still get dreadfully bored with it eventually. But it would be my best bet)
For me this is a tough one because as you all know, games get outdated pretty quickly especially with new engines and hardware being released every few years.
As it stands now, I'd say most likely Dota 2 or Garry's Mod for me. Dota 2 has a massive community and Garry's Mod always has the potential to spawn out new game modes which can keep things fresh.
(Maybe in the near future, Overwatch? Too soon to say...)
Overall, whatever game I'd have to play for the rest of my life would need to have a strong multiplayer component. A single player game for the rest of one's life seems like it'd turn into true torture over time unless you were truly deeply engrossed into the story, the characters, and the world of that single player game to the point where you'd feel you'd never want to leave it.
