I'm specifically referring to the Viera clan in FFTA and FFXII. I may be wrong, but that's the only reference I can think of.

FFXII Viera
A Playboy Bunny
At least these bunnies leave their tops on. Sexualized female characters are nothing new for Square. Why else would they spend hours animating a scene where Rikku unzips her scuba suit, or have Lulu take a big bow whenever she wins a battle? And let's not forget the frequent overt sexual inuendos throughout FFVII: Tifa's underpants, the Honeybee club, Don Corneo, Cloud and Tifa right before disc 3. But even with the Playboy bunnies in FFXII, I don't think FF is as obnoxiously sexualized as something like the DOA franchise or, heaven forbid, Rumble Roses.i have to agree with you on that one, it's nothing new really, in fact DQVIII has playboy bunny style girls in it too...at least they dnt go too far with it...

no one actually answered the question... lol
I don't actually know for sure but you never know... it might not be based on playboy :P... i admit the resemblance is similar and knowing the history of inuendo in FF I wouldn't doubt that it is based off of that but once again you never know it might just be a coincidence haha
I don't really see the resemblance. There's lots of weird animal things with anime at least, cat girls, like Felicia in SF and all that. Playboy really has no affiliation with Final Fantasy. (The magazine has been going downhill for awhile now anyway :D)Headbanger88how would you know that?

They might've gotten some of the ideas from Playboy bunnies but I don't think it's like a direct influence...if that makes sense:Pnatiko
Yeah, I'm not sure that they read Playboy over there. They have their own porn mags right....Amnesiac23we're talking about japan here...lol they have noend of stuff like that..
I have a few questioons I would like to ask and my first one is how do you get pictures to show like that where you can see them and not the link and secondly how do you add vidoes to your union. Thanks in advance.Imaraider85
thats kinda offtopic but anyway if you want to link an image, this is the format if i remember:
Image
And if you want to add a video to your union, first you need to upload it then put it in the Union Association category.
On a side note, Viera is hotter than that Playboy bunny.....Dark-Messenger
They're children of the forest maybe? I dunno.
Anyway, to the question at hand, The bunny girl outfits have been in anime for YEARS. Since the original Dragonball at least, probably before. They probably were originally inspired by the Playboy bunny outfits (I think that they use something like what you get in Dragon Quest VIII in casinos, but thats just an educated guess) however the bunny girl outfit is such a staple of anime now that it would be difficult to say anything done now is based on the original Playboy rather than other animes. I think the catgirls are a similar thing.
As to the Viera being directly inspired by the bunny girl outfits in anime, etc. lets just say that if they had made a feline race I would instantly nail that as being based in anime's liking the catgirls.... So I'm going to say that the idea that the Viera were created independant of any sort of thought of "Hey, whats associated with sexy in fantasy creatures?" is unrealistic, but not impossible.
Finally I'll say that while I find that outcry against selling sex in the media on this board encouraging, I should remind those who think that realization of a gender balanced market is going to change things should look at other media outlets and see if they have ever stopped trying to sell sex. TV, Music, Literature, Painting, they've all had long standings and they all still do it, so don't count on video games changing anytime... Ever really.
