What can you say about the name of the flower seller in FFVII? In the Japanese version she was called  Aerith, while her name was changed a bit in the U.S. verion (Aeris).

I like the U.S. "Aeris" as it sounds better to me (both to the ear and to how it is pronounced), but some people think that Aerith is the proper one.

i myself like Aerith, only encountered it this afternoon when i finally got Advent Children australian version!

but i like aerith it dosent have any connotations with god of war which is exactly what the character is NOT!

so i like Aerith p.s watched the making of and stuff cant get over how young Tetsuya Nomora is (char design 7,8,10 & 12 possibley others) also the others they all seem like such young people.

In Japanese the letters 'th' are pronounced as an 'S'. I'm guessing the reason Square changed the spelling in the non-Japanese version was so that we'd all say it the same way. I'd agree that pronouncing it with an 'S' sounds better though.

I like Aeris better, after all, I've been calling her that since forever. Besides, saying Aerith makes you sound like you have a lisp :P.

The character will always be Aeris in my book!! That is how I came to know her back in 1997!! Wow. Nine years ago already? Besides, the proper pronunciation of in Japan is with an s anyways. Game On.

the names are still on the disc, it simply isn't accessible via standard means, aeris=earith=aerith, barret=ballet, cloud=Ex-SOLDIER=EX-SOLDIE, Cait-Sith=Ketcy=(blank, there's nothing there...), Yuffie=Yufi, Vincent=Vince, red XIII=red (nothing much of a change really...), cid and tifa dnt seem to have alt. names, also Vincent and Sephiroth's images seem to be interchangable too....

She's called Aerith in all the kingdom hearts games, and in the cutscenes, when they talk about her, I'm pretty sure they pronounce it with a "th" and not an "s"...

The KH series is pretty inaccurate with names though. In one game they pronounce Tidus as Tee-dus, and then in another they pronounce it as Tie-dus. I've always said Tie-dus personally.

At first I called him "tie-dus", but later I learned to call him "tee-dus". :)

Back to Aeris, I've read before that Aerith is the proper name as it connotes something... Aerith = Earith = Earth, which is Gaia... Where she finally become part of and has helped the entire planet along with lifestream or something like that.

Havnt thought of one for Pearl yet,
but its a good way of explaing what something does ( using a good name)
for instance my latest Jazz Band is called Jovial Nostalgia, some ppl might have to dictionary the meanings of these words! but it essentially describes the kind of band we are.
