DID YOU KNOW?: Of the 165 laps so far run in the Korean GP, Sebastian Vettel has led all but 12 of them - the remaining were headed by Fernando Alonso.

POINTS OF DISCUSSION

  1. To what extent does Sebastian Vettel's dominance in Singapore create an ominous precedence for the remaining races of the season?
  2. Jules Bianchi will remain with Marussia for 2014 - is it good for him to spend another year gaining experience at the back or should he look to have moved up the grid?
  3. With a potential 22 race calendar, some are considering it too much - if the calendar were to be trimmed down, would Korea make the cut or not for you?
  4. Paul di Resta has now been involved in three race-ending crashes in the past three races (Belgium not being his fault though) - is he feeling the pressure since the tyre change?
  5. The pit lane exit has been changed for this year - is this change for better or worse?

Just to reply to Rayrota's comment about my picks, I did explain that if Alonso is not taken out then I think he would get a podium finish, covering two potential outcomes.

1. He is under very little pressure right now, so I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the season went very well for him.

2. I'm just glad he got a seat for another year, he seems like something special, he along with Hulkenburg deserve to move up the grid a bit.

3. I think it would, I would rather lose the two (now 3 I guess) gimmicky races at night; if your race is only interesting because it's dark it shouldn't be on the calendar.

4. I don't know if it's that or if he's just frustrated or what, but his attitude this year, especially towards his team, has been pretty disappointing. I'm not sure he deserves a seat there if he doesn't improve next year.

5. Has my memory faded or wasn't it like that in 2010? There doesn't seem to be anywhere good for them to put it, unfortunately.

On the F1 2010 video game it was, but it was released before the Korean GP ever took place. There were also barriers put up on that so there was a definite avoidance of a collision.

So it was different in real life? I never knew :P I thought they moved it for 2011. Still, with no wall there, and the unpredictable weather conditions too, I wouldn't be surprised if a car spun off over the pit exit. Whether or not there'll be anyone driving there is a whole other matter entirely.

  1. Very much so - although with the benefit of the first 2 practice sessions hopefully Mercedes will be in the hunt
  2. Better to stay where he is than to not have a drive. Would have been nice for him to go to Sauber or FI but......
  3. Would certainly be "fly away" races that I'd trim out. This is certainly one that would be in the mix
  4. Probably
  5. Ask me after the race :)
As to Redders comment about picking Webber - it's a toss up. He will probably qualify top 4 thus dropping to at worst 14. From there best he can sensibly hope for is top 5. So probably only 9 places up for grabs. He will either pull a blinder or have a stinker and be a DNF so toss that coin

Or, what I think is likely, he will get into the low points scoring positions then sort of give up/have damage to his car that means he will just stay in position. His Singapore race was good, but lets be honest, how often this past year has he got stuck behind a slower car and just stayed behind it and not gone for an overtake?

Vettel's pole makes number 208 for a Renault engine - now tied with Ferrari for all-time record.

I hear a faint booing sound and Italian profanity coming from the east. What can it be?

There's a mathematical, but improbable, chance that Vettel could win the title in Japan - Fernando Alonso must finish higher than 9th to prevent Vettel from becoming a four-time champ there.

It's all but confirmed now, but as me and Redders discussed earlier, When Red Bull won their 3 bogey circuits, you could tell it was all a statement of intent, now lets hope 2014 can provide some close racing... (Here's hoping anyway...)

Mark Webber's new theme song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-klIoqp2pzw

Really feel sorry for Mark, this is not the way to retire from F1. :( Although, if Red Bull is a so-called team, how come Vettel doesn't get the same treatment ?

In other ways, DotD: Raikkonen.

SotD: Hulkenberg.

Is Alonso's theme song this?

Link

DoTD: Grosjean, proving the haters wrong once again, such a shame he did not get second place. I hope he wins a race soon, hopefully Lotus can provide him a good car next season and that he is with an equal team mate so it it does not lead to him having to move over whenever he is beating his team mate.

SoTD: Nico "Nobody passes me" Hulkenberg. If this guy does not have a drive next season then this is a real shame.

Passers of the day: Raikkonen and Massa made some moves up the field. Massa proving that he should not be wrote off and hopefully a drive will be available for him.

Can we fit an extinguisher to my car award: Webber, man this guy's luck is running low at the moment.

I hope Korea sticks around on the circuit list, such an interesting race and with the layout suiting multiple cars in different ways, it makes for some tense battles.

You cruel man!

EDIT: Then I see I actually won the round anyway. Oh!

Interesting fact, Max Chilton is last in the Drivers' Standings but is the only driver besides Lewis Hamilton to finish every race so far this season.
