So what else do you collect beside games?  Cookie jars?  Stamps?  Tea Cozies?  I personally don't collect anything other than games -- in fact I don't have any other hobbies beside running which is great spending-wise, and of course gaming itself -- but wondering if any of you have any other collecting interests.  I know Inkwolf colelcts Smashing Pumpkins stuff, and gmsnpr has a good DVD collection, how about the rest of you?

I vaguely remember this thread... oh well, I'll relist...

coins, comics, trading/collector cards, action figures, DVDs and VHSs. I used to have quite a bit of each but have started selling non-games a few years back...

I collect "alternative" films on DVD. No, not porn, but movies that most people would either not know about or not like if they did. I collect films that come from the Giallo genre (Italian slasher flicks). exploitation films, which is why Grindhouse was such a cool release to me, and horror films--some campy and some really disturbing. I don't collect them just to have them on the shelf, however, I watch them, usually several times. Nobody rents some of this stuff, and in order to encourage the re-release of some of these classic (from a certain point of view) films on formats to which I have access, I vote with my wallet.

The reason I began collecting games with the seriousness that I do, in terms of attention to detail and a focus on condition, is because of my first big collecting hobby, which was comic books. I mentioned that I wouldn't play Adventure II until I found a "playing copy", the comic collecting is the source of that. It was common for me and other collectors to buy two copies of each issue bought in order to both read the story and to keep a pristine copy. I quit collecting comics with any seriousness at the end of 2004, though I haven't gotten rid of anything. My comic collection is waiting quietly in a climate-controlled storage unit across town.

I've seen all three, own Army of Darkness, and have owned the first one in the past, but they're far from obscure.  I think every Blockbuster in the nation has them, so I don't need to.

I used to collect comics, but I stopped a while ago.  Games are pretty much all I collect.  I do buy some stuff associated with games (soundtracks, figures, strategy guides) but that's about it.  My wife thinks I'm nuts when she gets in my car and finds a game sountrack in the CD player, but I don't think it's any different than listening to a movie soundtrack.

I've had box turtles as pets twice, and they're fun.  I had some painted turtles as well, but they are more work to keep and not as much fun.

Yeah, Usagi isn't and never was a TMNT character. There, as you know, have been crossovers, including bringing the TMNT into the comics a few times too. I have met the creator, Stan Sakai, twice when he came to the Mid-Ohio-Con and have snagged myself two original pieces of art and other miscellaneous things when he made his visits.

I collect foreign films (specifically Kurosawa), some anime, and movies in general.  I also have DBZ and Pokemon collections from when I was a little kid.  I wasted way too much money on Pokemon cards back in the day.

Alright, let me take a shot now.... how about Peter Jackson's early films.  "Bad Taste", "Meet the Feebles" and "Dead Alive".  I've seen them all and if they don't fit your description of "campy and disturbing", I don't want to know what does!

A lot of the movies I collect are sci-fi, but it's mostly what appeals to me. No, I'm not a fan of the campy crappy sci fi of the 40's, 50's or 60's, but if there's a Philip K. Dick novel translated well to screen, I just may bite.  I'm hoping to find Screamers on DVD some day (based off of the short story "Second Variety" and is actually very similar in storyline).

I also collect chessboards, although, again, I'm very discerning.  I'm currently looking for a chess set with Samurai pieces.  Hard to find, and quite expensive.  I also want one made of soapstone.  So far, I have two frosted glass sets (cheapies) and one wooden one from Cuba.

My cd collection is what I like to listen to, mostly rock and metal, simple enough.  If there's a band I like, I will collect their albums, but I do make certain to catch singles before I bite; good metal is expensive and sometimes has to be imported, and I don't like waiting three months for a cd from a Canadian band on a German label (Annihilator would be that band).

As a collector, all of my collections pretty much reflect that I don't know art, but I know what I like.

They do, but it was campy or disturbing.  If a movie does both, then that's OK, too.  I liked Bad Taste and Dead Alive, but I haven't watched Feebles.  I see it for sale a fair amount and I've considered getting it, but I always put it down for some reason.  I used to have Dead Alive on VHS, but haven't picked it up on DVD.  "I kick ass for the Lord!" may be my favorite line in a Peter Jackson movie.

It's funny, I remember "The Frighteners" as a comedy, but when I showed it to my wife soon after we were married, she was terrified, while I just thought the jokes were stale.

dude, I'm sorry I didn't know there was a Usagi comic. but I never collected any comic besides Real Ghostbusters, GIJOE and, Transformers and Marvel (super heroes) instead of sayingwhat you said maybe you could have given me some links so I could check it out

and he WAS in the TMNT comic, 80's/90's Cartoon AND the current TMNT cartoon so it's not a fair statement to say he "never" was a character in that show/comic. cross-over or not he WAS in them. they never mentioned  it being a cross-over so how was I or others supposed to know that?

Hi everybody...I'm late to the party again.  *waves, grabs beer*

While I don't actively collect anything anymore, I have amassed a relatively large collection of books.  Nothing specific, just anything that might look interesting, I usually pick up.  I play a lot of video games, but I actually read even more.

I USED to collect KISS stuff, baseball cards, super balls, weird golf balls...the list was huge.  I was a packrat, basically.

I know Inkwolf collects Smashing Pumpkins stuff...

aspro73

That I do.  Here are some pictures:

Vinyl records.  My favorite is the signed Siamese Dream in the upper right hand corner.

CDs and cassette tapes.  I didn't bother with an exact count, but it should be just shy of about 200 CDs or so.  Albums, singles, compilations, soundtracks, imports, and bootlegs.

Don't worry, I have other music as well too, it's not all Pumpkins. :P

I bought all of the Judas Priest remasters; the spines on half of them are misprinted, so when you line them up in their order of release, the Judas Priest logo is out of alignment :P  I have a pic, I'll upload i after the weekend when I also have some pics of my dad's deck that I helped finish.

I once tried to expand to videogame related items, such as magazines, memorabilia, all of the merchandise Mario appeared on, etc. But I decided it's better for my budget to just stick with one thing only.

I have a collection of masonic memorabilia (pins, historical items etc.) i dont collect it as much as i used to but if i see a nice peice i will pick it up.

i used to collect sports cards when i was a kid, but i probably havent bought a pack of cards since the early nineties, however i still have all the cards stored away (thousands of cards), so i guess you could still call it a collection.

I could have sworn I posted in this thread back in the day. Huh. Must have been another like it.

Anyway, I collect CDs and DVDs and have a library's worth of books. I don't collect rare or antique books or anything, I just read a lot. Mainly fantasy, sci-fi and crime. I've accumulated some good stuff, like an entire first-run of Fighting Fantasy gamebooks. All 59 of 'em, first editions.

My music collection is about 600 CDs, covering all kinds of rock and metal. Classic rock to modern Euro metal. I've got lots of signed stuff, a fair few special/limited editions and some quite hard to find/out of print stuff.

As for DVDs, that's about 500 now. I like nearly all genres and will give just about anything a go. Again, some hard to find stuff in there and some awesome limited editions like the Chan Park-Wook Vengeance set. It has a friggin' hammer in the box.

I've also got about 100 elephant ornaments/toys/etc, although that's not so much a collection as an on-going joke amongst the rest of my family that I'm obviously not party to. I'm just presented with more elephants at each birthday/Christmas/random day of the week.

I Collect DVDs and Movie Tickets, and I use to collect Yu Gi Oh cards, but I don't have that much of them, just a shoe box filled with useless cards.

I'm pretty sure no one collects movie tickets :P, I Just started collecting them in late 2007, and I have about 50 tickets right now, the latest is "The Love Guru", don't get me wrong, I just love movies, that's why I go to the theater almost weekly.

and DVDs, actually I think I started collecting DVDs before games, I mean I use to buy games every once in a while and play them and than store them, but just a few months ago I decided that I should buy games to play.

I have about, 90 DVDs (The Reason it's so small is because I use to collect TV shows, and those are extremly expensive, so I kinda quit buying TV shows unless its something I really want to watch), and 79 games, yes I know, It tiny compared to what you guys have, but keep in mind, I just started collecting a few months ago.

Perhaps not. I always keep my movie ticket after I see one. Nice little box of memories on my dresser. I even kept the stub that went through the wash. Still more or less decipherable.

I wouldn't say I actively 'collect' them, but I usually keep them. I've got most of mine from the past five years or so, sadly none from before that (damn mother). I'm very protective of my many concert tickets though, woe betide the person who lays a finger on those!

It wouldn't say its as active now as it once was, but I am a huge movie fan.

700 VHS Movies, 110 Beta Max, 120 Laser Disc, and 1200 DVD's.

Prior to really getting into movies I guess CD's were my thing for a while, although hardly as impressive somewhere around 350 CD's which nearly doubled to about 650 when Mrs. Cosmostein added her "collection" to mine.

I am not sure if that was as much collection as simply amassing music and movies that I actually wanted to listen to or watch, I think the size makes it a collection more then the intention behind it.

I also still have a Magic: The Gathering collection which spans from Beta upwards to Weatherlight.

Aside from the typical CD/DVD collection I also have a lot of game related toys, posters, and promotional display items. Expect to see pics of them appearing shortly in the photo topic.

now that i think about it, i see why i collect video games: because i collected other things before it.

when i was younger i collected baseball cards until i realized that to get a card that will mean something, i have to buy some glossy limited edition card. finding that out ruined card collecting for me. it also coincided with the strike of 96. also i realized trading wasnt my hobby either.

then it went to cd's and mixtapes. mostly hiphop stuff. edit: but it stopped ever since i got into underground hiphop cuz i didn't have a credit card (most of the stuff was sold in san francisco and the only way is to order online) and mp3's....

then dvd's after i got me a ps2 since i can watch dvd's in my room. edit: this was a hard thing to give up because i couldn't collect dvd's and video games at the same time. i made my choice....

"I collect films that come from the Giallo genre"

Interesting. You see Argento's new movie? I haven't seen it yet. I'm a big fan of his. Was going to see it with my gf at the time. Broke up before we got around to it. Forgot about it.

You collect the paperbacks or just movies?

I collect antiquarian books. Mostly mid to late 18th century American textbooks and late 19th/early 20th century Prussian and Weimar philosophy and concordant cultural criticism from later on, books relating to the history of where I live and out of print literature of philosophy.

Also a big comic strip fan i.e. Dilbert, Boondocks, Calvin and Hobbes.

this is a long story but i'll give you the short story.

well before 2004 i bought what i heard was cool or saw in a publication magazine that i buy once in awhile (didn't subscribe to anything. i wasn't much of a gamer except for a few games like counter strike and sports games .before gs, i only had about 10 games for ps...and one rpg...ff7. i played games but i was into other things like going out and drugs. after buying an xbox i bought knights of the old republic. after playing it i went to search if there was a seqouel. I typed videogames.com and arrived at gs. I signed up and added games to my collection but noticed all these badges everyone had. saw the serious collector badge. saw the gs review. something clicked. I kept on researching games on gs...and just kept on buying games that i researched. i went from 20 to 120 games in one year.

if i didn't stumble onto gs, i prolly wouldn't have been into video games cuz i was soo uninformed. if it wasn't for the good taste and serious collector's badge....i don't think i wouldve hunted down all these rpg's for ps and never would have told myself to get the best collection. so yea...that is the short version...

I collect baseball cards mainly rookies, inserts, game used, and autos! I have way to many baseball cards and I wouldn't be able to sort through them all in 100 years!!! My cards are probably worth 100 times more than all my games. I also have a nice size coin and paper currency collection, all Early to Current US. I have some foreign currency as well including a huge stack of Iraqi Dinar (is that how you spell that?) with Suddams face on them, and some coins as well. I collect knives, and soon want to start a firearm collection! I also have well over 1,000 dvd's.... I guess I am just a collector at heart! You know.... every time I think my collections seem like a waste of time and space, I think about all the time and money I have spent with them, and I know that their worth is A LARGE SUM OF MONEY! Having more than one collection keeps it easy to add to each of them... I get big into game collecting and add several before getting a little burnt out, and then I start collecting cards again, then coins.... and that cycle repeats itself over and over! Try to have at least 2 collections, it keeps things fresh and appealing! ;)

I have accumulated a large bookshelf full of books, about 400 or so music cds (that I never use because they are all ripped to my ipod), and about 300 dvds. But video games are the only thing I collect. :)

I haven't seen it, though I'm keen to. I have Suspiria and Inferno, so it'll be nice to see the end of the trilogy. Thus far, critics put La Terza Madre bwtween the first two in quality. Even if it's just better than Il Cartaio, I'll be happy.

Though I did think about it, I don't have any paperback-form gialli, mainly b/c I don't read Italian. My wife does, but I don't need to collect any more kinds of things. It would start cutting into my game habit.
