Option not to display avatars

I come to GameSpot (and subscribe) for news and discussion on video games, not to look at the same pictures and signatures stacked on top of each other with a tiny amount of actual content in between them.  With the new, larger size of the avatars and people's elaborate signatures, a common short post, like "QFT" is almost all useless crud--avatar and signature.  At least I can turn the signatures off, but there's no option to do so with avatars.

It was bad enough that every nth avatar in a thread was animated, flashing and blinking away, distracting me from the actual post, but now they're huge, too.  I shouldn't have to turn off all images, because images related to the discussion are posted in forums, and because that just replaces all the avatars with a huge, ugly "G." 

Please include an option in the user prefs to disable avatars without affecting other images.

Yeah, that was a bad example.  I was just picturing a short post swimming in all the ava/sig nonsense...
