By far the best Formula One title yet released. A must have for any F1 fan!
Catering for both rookies and seasoned drivers alike, thanks to customisable driving aids, there really is something for everyone of any ability here. Turn more of the driving aids (such as steering/ braking assistance and Anti-lock brakes) and you'll feel like Schumi in no time. As you progress you can gradually turn the aids off for a more realistic approach. Those used to the series, like myself, should feel comfortable with turing the aids off from the start.
Visually the game is superb with beautiful replications of the real cars and circuits from the 2005 FIA Formula One World Championship but the biggest improvement is with the race day atmosphere. Grandstands are packed to capacity with flares going off and flags waving. Pit radio is perfect giving you just the right pieces of information and the TV commentary (provided by F1 itv's James Allen and Martin Brundle) really creates a sense of occassion, as do the fully animated pit-stops. Also, the sounds of F1 have finally been made perfect - for the first time in a game engine noises are simply awesome.
Problems? The career mode just isn't interesting enough even for hardcore F1 fans. I mean who wants to play as a test driver in a racing game? The lack of choice when it comes to helmet designs is also annoying considering your character is supposed to be "customisable." The same can be said for the lack of TV commentary in the career mode, which can mean long Grand Prix races become boring.
These are minor problems though with an otherwise perfect F1 simulation.
