Old-school fun

First off I'd like to say that anyone who says the original game is better than this is insane. The original was awesome in it's day, but now it sucks major ass, just like all the other old-school scrolling beat-em-ups do.

This game retains the "walk around and mash on the buttons till all the enemies are dead" gameplay of the original, except that it's in 3D and you're not just scrolling sideways along a street. Now you can roam around a very small city and go to the designated map markers to progress the story at your own pace. There's short side quests, a couple of shops and a gym to train your character and upgrade your move list in the city area too.
The combat, as I've said before, is fairly simple, but it's all pretty responsive. You have your basic punches, combos, counters, blocking and weapons to pick up. All in all I found the combat quite satisfying, if a little repetitive.
There are quite a lot of cut scenes to progress the story along, but they never get boring, and I personally was totally engrossed by the storyline. Okay, it was pretty simple, but I still cared about the characters and wanted to play through the game till the end.
If you like brainless button mashers with good characters, a bit of violence and bad language then you'll like this.
