When Final Fantasy Tactics Advance first came out, I was skeptical, mainly because I never really was a hard core Final Fantasy fan. I picked it up when I first heard how good it was, and now I can't put it down. FF:TA has everything a good RPG should be. Addicting game play, an engaging storyline, and the great graphics really make you feel you are there. (From an isometric view point, that is) I find the battles a little repetitious, and time consuming, but the “easy to learn, hard to master” battle techniques make it all worth while. Like I said, the battles ARE time consuming, some taking as much as 30 minutes. Luckily, you can do a “Save Now!” in the middle of a battle, and when you return, it will be in the exact same state as it was when you “Saved Now!” Probably the major turn-off is the way the battles are played. You cannot move freely around, instead it is turn based. You have a certain movement and attack range per turn. But because you control an entire party (called a clan in the game), it makes it easy to plan tactical formations and attacks. And now, this brings us to the storyline. The game starts off in modern times (the city looks like the 1990's), and a snowball fight held at the school introduces the characters. (The teacher is there the whole time, he isn't getting a promotion. In fact, he is making the rules for the fight!) After the fight (which is cut short, a battle that causes 1 damage each hit WOULD take a while.), one of the characters says that they have found a strange book, and that he would bring it to your characters house. After some more of watching (like all RPG'S do), you come to the scene where things start happening. Overnight, the entire city of St. Ivalice is transformed into the entire land of (get this) Ivalice. You wake up in a little Arabian-like town, where your first battle begins. During this battle, many of the game's rules are introduced. So, in short, this is a great RPG, not perfect by any means. If you are a Final Fantasy fan, or simply an RPG fan, you should definitely check this one out!
