Final Fantasy 9 is without a doubt one of the best RPG's ever made. There is very little to frown upon in FF9. Quite possibly one of the most well rounded stories of the entire FF series with some of the most well defined characters of any genre FF9 is nothing short of a masterpiece. Borrowing upon the franchises combat system FF9 improves upon just about every aspect that FF fans have come to know and love. Not only this but their is a character to which everyone can relate to in addition to like. There is also every flavor of story telling in the tale of FF9 from drama to action to romance, every element is present in the FF9 story. On the side the character cast is simply amazing with every character you meet having a distinct characteristic that sets them out from the rest. In addition to this no character is left untouched even if you decide you do not want you use them. The game encourages you to flesh out the cast since you are forced to use every character at some point in the game. To top it all off is character specialties and enhancements which seem to start with FF9 instead of the almost rhetorical class system that comes with RPG's. FF9 introduced a new and refreshing system which while it offered rigidity, it also allowed for deep development of each character and their respective class. In the end FF9 is nothing short of amazing and any FF fan or RPG fan should try it.
