Simply not worth buying. Graphics not on par, Framerate issues, but still good for a little multiplayer.

2006 FIFA World Cup was not ambitious, and without ambition it is simply too dry to buy. EA put little effort into creating a game fully representative of the atmosphere of World Cup soccer. It was put out too early, with too little.

Gameplay wise, it is an average soccer game. You can pass, shoot, and tackle. With small variations of the above, you perform all the necessary actions to put a ball in the net. Unfortunately, little is to be said in the department of innovation, making it somewhat dry. Like-wise, it is not a very tough game, lest you choose a team ranked 120th, and play Brazil.

Graphics are a let down. It is definitely a step backwards, characters at times seem blocky when far away, and some animations are not up to par. But what drags this score down is the Framerate. They occur quite often, and in noticeable amounts. Mostly when you get into the other teams end, and the crowd starts yelling, the game tends to slow.

The sound is very well done. Many crowd expressions, and the announcers have good commentary, though sometimes comments are misplaced. Overall, good sound.

Of course, being a soccer game, you can play the crap out of it, if you so wish. With plenty of teams to play as, and plenty to beat, and several modes to do so, there is plenty to do. There are also goals that you can achieve, such as clean sheet, no cards, win by 2 goals, etc.

Overall, I didn't find this game overly enjoyable, and wish I'd rented something else. Being a soccer player myself, I felt it didn't show the real feel of the game. Not only that, but the World Cup is the most popular sports event worldwide, and there is much anticipation and energy in the crowd. The game fails to capture that energy, and is just not on par with some other soccer games, even some of it's predecessors.
