Great Graphics Decent Gunplay Terrible everything else.

User Rating: 5.5 | Far Cry 2 PC
Okay, I loved the first Far Cry and I am not angry at this one from completely abandoning the foundations that made the original great. That being said this game raises the bar in two categories that made the original great. One being the exceptional graphics if you got a PC to run them and the other is the vast weaponry that is available to you. Unfortunately, everything else about the game sucks. The open world and dynamic fire are interesting, but the missions are all very similiar and it is so infuriating to get in skirmishes over and over again with people you killed 5 MINUTES AGO. If I spend 15 minutes clearing an encampment I expect them to be dead when I drive back 10 minutes later.
Open world games are not supposed to be constant action thrown at you every second there is supposed to investment in the world. Your're supposed to have varied tasks to complete and actually care about characters. The original Far Cry had a semi open world, but it was open world in a sense that you could attack the objective from a bunch of different approaches. It was still linear in the sense that these objectives progressed the story. Far Cry 2's objectives all meld together I can't tell one from the other. One cannot stress enough how frustrating it is to fight the same looking enemies over and over and then have them respawn nearly instantly. This game has breathtaking graphics on a good PC, but it just goes to show you that graphics don't mean a damn thing if the gameplay is monotonous.

Where Ubisoft made the mistake is they made a huge open world and tried to have constant action in every section of it. If you're gonna have an open world fps it has to fit that stalker or fallout 3 mold there has to be varied quest givers with varied objectives and occasional enemies in the world. Seriously, all comments aside if they raised the respawn timer by an hour I would be able to play this game. The fact that is averaged such high reviews is baffeling. I feel like nowadays if a game is bug free but has major shortcomings it gets an 8 or higher especially if it is a blockbuster game. Stalker and New Vegas are vastly superior to this steaming pile and both averaged lower review scores. Listen to the actual gamers before you buy you've been warned.
