The 500 Wii Points cost warrants a buy even though it is a very short and somewhat disappointing game.

Intro: Family Table Tennis is recent WiiWare title by Aksys Games. They are most known for the making of certain Guilty Gear games. Family Table Tennis is a 500 Wii Points costing game that has 3 modes. Single Player, Vs. Mode, and Mini Game mode. A funny thing is that the configure menu has only one option to turn the voices on and off!

Gameplay: In the game, their are 4 characters to play as. A father, mom, daughter, and son, but it really doesn't effect anything. The game plays a lot like a watered down version of Wii Tennis. You swing the remote at the right time to hit the ball and speed affects it. There is also something when you barely skim the ball to hit it, you lose balance. When this happens, you need to shake the remote to regain balance. It also gives the opponent the chance to hit a Special Shot, a very fast hit activated be holding A at the perfect time when swinging.

The single player mode is really short. When you first try it, there will be only 4 matches to play. You will chose a character and battle it out with the three other family members. You fight the first one twice just because there are four stages. However they are nothing more than just non-moving backgrounds. It took me less than 10 minutes to beat it because it was so easy. It was easier later because the second time you play, there are only three stages.

Vs. mode is very flawed. It only has a player vs player mode and that is it. No ranking, no tournament, there were a lot of things that could of been added.

There are only three mini games. The first of which is to hit the ball as close to a moving red mark as possible. It took me about five minutes to get a high score only thirty-seconds. It is pretty easy to beat the computer high scores. There second game is to rally the ball as much as possible and win. Every bounce is a rally. You need 99 points to win. The top computer score is 99-30. My best is 99-0, a perfect score which took me about a minute to do. The last one is what I think to be extremely hard. You have to hit fruits in the right direction in the time limit. I can't even seem to get a score of 2 in the end. That is because a missed fruit is -10 points and it is hard to direct hits.

Sound: There isn't much to say. There aren't many songs. There not bad but not memorable either. Also, the family's voices are still in Japanese. Some people will definitely be confused about that.

Graphics: The backgrounds are dull and non-moving and there are not many good animations. There is a certain charm however to the look of the family. There are like 3-D chibi versions of anime characters.

Ending: This a decent game. The 500 cost warrants a buy. However there are still better 500 Wii Points games out there. To get the best out of the game you will need a friend to play with and some play of mini-games. Still, it is a very short game. Good enough to pay 500 points though.
