Like the time when Family Guy had a licenced videogame.

Family Guy started off as an underapreciated TV show that has the laughter and charm behind it to take on The Simpsons, and suddenly it got axed, disasterously. Luckily DVD sales resurrected that genuinely fantastic show and has been going from strength to strength since. To be honest it is better than The Simpsons in many respects as its always willing to raise the bar constantly.

This doesn't 100% totally apply to the videogame. The story is mucked up and awkward and some of the humour is hot and miss, when the only thing keeping it together is the strong references to the show and the hilarious mini-games on offer. Peter's story is the most random of all, he goes on a rampage to fight Mr. Bellvadere, there just seems no point to it whatsoever and this isn't helped one bit by he clumsy and chunky combat moves. Particular moves have to be performed in order to thrash somebody and anything else will be uneffective. Enemies are almost indestructible aswell and often take you down no problem.

The lack of a story involving all the family is disasterous aswell, we see no Meg, Louis or Chris who would have been great to see make an appearance in the game as playable characters.

Graphically it is true to the show, alongside the references, and a lot of the time it is believeable you could possibly be palying the TV show, and this is one of the few things the game does well. For fans this is a near true representation of the show but because of that, may be highly unappealing towards anyone else.

Levels are highly uninspired. The three playable characters, Brian, Stewie and Peter all have their own style of gameplay. All the way through the game, nothing changes for them. Brian has his stealth missions which are ludicrously irritating, Stewie has platforming levels with minor puzzles and unresonsive gunplay and Peter has his side-scrolling beat-em-up. There is no change anywhere and is grows incredibly dull and repetitive.

Apart from the graphics, there is only the minigames that save this game from total annhilation. Based upon the "Remember the time" moments in Family Guy, these mini-games result in being more enjoyable and amusing than the actual game. You will get to play Marco Polo with the deaf blind girl and hunt deer with a fire truck on The Discovery Channel, and the games only saviour.

if you're looking for a game true to the source this is it, Family Guy fans will be pleased with the amount of references and gags thrown in but everyone will be put off by the slog of repetitive gameplay and stubbourn controls. It just needs a sharpen up.
