Definite style of the TV show, but misses out on some of the fun.

In Family Guy you get to play as 3 characters from the show; Peter, Stewie, or Brian. Each character plays their own style of level. With Peter it plays much like a Streets of Rage, side scroller beat-em-up. As you play you acquire new moves to kick progressively more butt, with boss matches at the end of each level.

Stewie's levels are high action as well, as you run around shooting things with your ray gun, and solving door puzzles. These levels play much more like a modern platformer.

Then's there's my least preferred levels, Brian's levels. These are stealth levels where you have to get from point A to point B without being seen. You accomplish this by hiding in shadows, under furniture, and wearing disguises. The whole game feels like playing recycled versions of each characters level, except each time around the levels get a little bit bigger. Peter and Brian's levels also don't feel very open. The objects and characters are 3D models, but the overall design feels more 2D. Then again, it is based on a 2D cartoon.

It's not that the levels aren't fun, it's just like playing a broken record. Stewie, Brian, Peter. Stewie, Brian, Peter. Stewie, Brian, Peter.

There are mini games that pop up in between the levels which mixes things up a little, but each one takes about 10 to 45 seconds to play, so it doesn't mix things up for long. In addition to adding some game play value, successfully completing a mini-game on the first try will often reward you with a type of power up for one of your characters. Once you have played a mini-game, you go head to the main menu and play them again to your hearts contempts. Again, because the mini games are so mini, it won't take long for that contempt to arrive.

There's some laughs, and there's some fun. It's just not something I'll want to play for several hours in a row.
