Fear 3 is a good first person shooter but a mediocre horror game.

I played the first Fear and the Second. I have the reviews here with GS. So i think i am qualified to say that the third time this game comes around is no doubt the weakest of the series. In the first and second game you battled Alma in all her might. She was fearsome, brutal and played psychological games with you every 20 steps you gave.

In this third title, you play as one of her sons. In fact, after you beat the game for the first time you will be given the choice to play the mad bro. No thank you. All the fear you might experiment comes from a thing that is hunting you, but in key level points Alma actually help you, well... in her way. You will not experiment 5% of the fear that the first Fear actually triggered in the players that have the pleasure to enjoy that horror game.

The only thing that put this game apart is the graphics. Outstanding visual effects and scenarios keep your attention to the end. But that is it. Fear evolved actually to a decent first person shooter. Glimpses of that were given in Fear 2.

You have at your disposal a nice and neat selection of weapons, with devastating effects when fired. Also you have lots of achievements when you kill protected under the protection of a wall, headshots and so on. The main problem of this is that dont contribute to the horror atmosphere that this game HAS to be. Its kinda lame every 2 minutes an achievement popping up in front of the screen.

Its also horrible have to do this every freaking level for the rest of the game, because the progression system that the developers of the game choose implies that you have to get predetermined number of points to advance to the next "level"of the progression of you character. So i was forced to get the same achievements for lets say 14 levels to keep progresssing my avatar, since the achievements give xp. A lot of annoying. Its like a punishment to the player. So at the end of the game i was so nauseated with achievements that i decided NOT to play with the second brother to avoid all that over again.

This game should have been made with less enemies. The approach is wrong. This game needed to be more a psychological one. I recently played Alice Madness Returns and i can say that i was more afraid of the fifth level of the game alice than the entire campaing of the Fear 3

The story is well told thoug, but the main characters lacks charisma, so you wont be compelled to play a second time, even with a different character.

In the end i am crossing my fingers that the Fear series ends with this last one, because if dont, well, the respect that this serie had gained over the years will be in serious danger.
