If you are into extreme sports you know as a gamer that the genre is as hit or miss as action games. Luckily Excite Bike 64 is a worthy game in the niche. The controls are fantastic and the graphics and sound are both high quality. In addition with the slew of extras and unlockable content, this game holds a lot of value for your buck. There is a tutorial mode for beginners which take you through a comprehensive stage based lesson plan teaching you everything from acceleration and braking to advanced takedown maneuvers. There is a basic career like mode that has you participating in tournaments against computer players and is how you unlock new tracks and more gear. Time attack mode is a perfect way to refine your driving technique without the bother of aggressive opponents. This game becomes more fun as you play it continually and become more experienced and master the different tracks and gain more skill in taking out opponents. The progression of difficulty as you play through the tournament mode is perfectly balanced and keeps you engrossed in the game for a long time. So if you are looking for a good extreme sports racing game for your N64 this is the best one that I am currently aware of. It is also good for beginners who want to try their hand at the racing genre.
