Everyday Shooter is a paced, and very creative, gem.

User Rating: 8.5 | Riff: Everyday Shooter PS3
Everyday Shooter is, simply put, a gem. It is a fast paced overhead shooter with a hint of mesmerizing guitar riffs thrown in. With great art design, simple controls, and a wide variety of music, this game is worth the $9.99 on the Playstation network. Sadly, however, you are only given eight levels. No multi-player or leaderboards also leaves this game with a bit more to be desired.

There is no real story to Everyday Shooter, but don't let that turn you away. The game focuses as more of a relaxation trip rather than something you have to delve deep into. You play as a blue dot moving around the level, firing at enemies, controlling your movement with the left thumbstick, and shooting with right. The art design here is simple yet spectacular. Everything has that hand drawn feel to it. As you enter new levels, you will find yourself awing at the sheer creativity put into each character. As you fight your way through hoards of enemies, a song is playing in the background. And as you kill your foes, a new sound is overlapped onto the audio track. This may sound as if all the noises would converge into one giant cluster of nonsense. But this is not the case. Each enemy makes a different sound that harmonizes with the main track. This makes a very "groovy" and pleasant experience. In all eight levels, the design is always different. From the color scheme to the enemies, to the soundtrack, no two levels feel the same.

The level of difficulty here varies. At times you will find yourself moving around enemies rather easily. And at other times, there is so much going on, it is hard to keep yourself from dying. Much of this, however, gets easier as you play more often and learn the overall feel of the levels.

As said before, the game has only eight levels, making it rather short in one strait playthrough. However, as you kill enemies you will collect pulsating dots that are worth points. You can use these points in the game store to buy more lives, unlock levels and much more. This adds an extra something to the game and keeps you playing back through to collect more points. The only downside of this is that it can take a few playthroughs to get enough points to purchase the more expensive items in the store. But overall, it adds some depth to an otherwise strait forward game.

All in all, this game is a must have for any Playstation 3 owner. For a fair price of only $9.99, you really get your moneys worth from this one. The lack of multi-player is really its only downfall. So if you want to go on a wild ride, hang on to your pants. Because Everyday Shooter is not your everyday game.
