You can't judge a book by it's cover, that goes for games as well.

User Rating: 8 | Eragon GBA
Most experienced gamers avoid movie based games, but for good reason-- most are awful. Eragon is a rare exception.

Story-- 6/10

Young Eragon is chosen to be a dragon rider, he swears to avenge his uncles death and bring peace to the land. To do this, he must slay the corrupt king. Surprisingly, the story seems somewhat different then that of the movie; Which is good because, I thought that the movie was awful. Overall the story is decent, it shouldn't be too unfamiliar to rpg fans.

Graphics-- 6/10

The characters lack detail; but the environments have a very nice appearance.

Sound-- 7/10

The tunes in eragon are good for the gba's capabilities. The sound effects are lacking, they are mostly limited to the constant hacks and slashes in battle.

Gameplay-- 9/10

Truly, this is what make's eragon so amazing. When adventuring in the overview map the battles are random. However, in dungeons and cities you see the enemy sprites as they move swiftly towards you, making them simple to evade. In battle, Eragon and his party is placed on the right, and the enemies to the left. Turns are taken by whoever has the highest speed. When a character attacks, they must press a certain sequence of buttons to perform a special attack. Enemies are usually fairly simple, they use regular attacks, some use items and cast spells on occasion. The player can flee from most battles, which is handy when exploring. Another good addition in battle, is the ability to block and dodge-- B is used to block melee attacks, and A is used to dodge ranged attacks. When the player succeeds in blocking or dodging an attack; the damage is halved.

Replay-- 7/10

A lengthy adventure, you can easily pull a good 20 hours out of this one. The game leaves enough customization to support a second play through

Overall-- 8/10

Personally, I was really impressed with Eragon. The game took a bit to get into, but once you're in, you're in. It's easy to tell that a lot of thought and care went into this game.

Most rpg fans would enjoy Eragon; but sadly, I doubt few will actually give this game a try.
