Don't be fooled by the cute anime art; this game's an ugly monster of a title.

User Rating: 1.9 | Ephemeral Fantasia PS2
For me Ephemeral Fantasia is the worst game I have ever played. Over looking the bad translation and generic (if not sometimes ridiculous) characters I would advise any serious gamer to avoid this title as there are far better games to use your time more wisely on.

The story is pretty uninspiring and only seemed to improve slightly as I progressed. None of the character really made me feel anything, apart from the ocasional few that managed to become annoying. Also, you never actually know where you're supposed to go and end up exploring empty rooms and houses that have no other reason other than getting you lost. Eventually you get teleported to the place you were heading because you were taking so long but this seems to defeat the point of trying to get there in the first place. As the game works on a time limit I guess this is one of the few necessary evils.

The graphics in this game seem more suited to the previous generation of console and not to the PS2 and although I put this game down after about five hours of forcing myself to play I don't think it had any cinematics that might have saved it a little.

When you do end up fighting you'll soon find that there is little variation in what you'll come up against; after encountering the same monster five times you'll begin to wonder what the point in it is. The battle system is pretty similar to most rpg styled games and there is nothing that makes you feel like you're seriously getting into an exciting battle.

You can also play songs but there is no in game guide to this and I was never able to get the hang of it. Whatever came out of my guitar was worse than the game's music; and that's saying something.

After a day of trying to force myself to like it I eventually took it back to the shop and managed to swap it for another one. All I can say is I feel sorry for the next person who picked it up; they don't know the nightmare of a title they're wasting their money on.
