Beautiful visuals, compelling story and engaging characters are ruined by a jittery camera and imprecise controls

This game could have been great, and actually in places it is. However, any enjoyment will be marred by the spastic camera, shoddy controls and too much trial and error.

This is a shame because the visuals are fantastic and the game is backed up with a truly compelling storyline. Another plus is the relationship between the two main characters, Monkey and Trip, which develops nicely and delivers some very touching moments.

Combat is made more difficult than it should be by a camera that jumps all over the place, meaning that you'll hit thin air as often as you will enemies in your vain efforts to direct Monkey's attacks. The platforming is also a bit hit and miss. When it works it flows wonderfully, as satisfying and intuitive as a Prince of Persia game. You will fall to your death a few times though, and unfortunately this is due again to lousy camera angles and unresponsive controls, so the deaths feel cheap.

The game also lacks balance when it comes to showing you how to proceed. At times it goes to great lengths to spell out what you have to do, taking all the fun out of discovering things for yourself. At other times, when you really need to be guided, there's nothing, and a tiresome period of trial and error ensues.

These issues are a real shame, and could have easily been remedied with a little care. But because of them the game feels rushed and lazily made in places, and detracts severely from the overall experience.

If you think you can tolerate these kinds of issues you'll probably get alot out of the game, but it's issues lead to frustration and tedium all too often.
