LOS ANGELES--GameTap has just issued a press release saying it will debut a new Sam & Max game at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Coproduced by GameTap and TellTale Games, the new Sam & Max game will be released later this year in episodic format. It will mark the first time the duo have appeared in a game for more than a decade.

Sam & Max first made their PC debut in Sam & Max Hit the Road in 1993. Based on Sam & Max: Freelance Police comic book characters created by Steve Purcell, the game was massively successful and still has a loyal fan base to this day. LucasArts announced that a sequel to the game was in development back in 2002, and its subsequent cancellation caused uproar with the fans.

At this point, little else is known about the GameTap version, other than that it will be shown off in video form when E3 starts on Wednesday. A GameTap subscription currently costs $9.95 per month.
