"Dreamfall: The Longest Journey" is a third person adventure game released on XBOX in 2006 by game devolopers 'Empire Interactive' and written/directed by 'Raynor Torquist'. It's also the sequel to the 2000 P.C hit 'The Longest Journey' also developed by E.I and written/directed by 'R.T'.
Ten years ago a young art student called 'April Ryan' discovered twin parallel worlds. One of science, and the other of majic.. These parallel worlds were known as 'Stalk' and 'Arcadia'. April also discovered that she was a 'Shifter', which ment that she was able to travel between both parallel worlds. Around the same time 'Stalk' (the science world) suffered a collapse. Nobody could explain what had exactually happened, but the skies darkened, and everything just simply shut down.
Destined to restore ballance between 'Stalk' and 'Arcadia' April (The herion of 'The Longest Journey') embarked on a long meaningfull adventure.
Ten years after the collapse, humanity has managed to pick it's self up by moving on. But the world suffered significant changes.. A wireless network known as 'The Wire' now monitors everybody and everything. Enforcing the protection of the wire is an organisation known as 'The Syndicate', formed from the chaos of the collapse. But over the past several weeks a mysterious static interference has been disrupting everything. And a leading robotics company known as 'WOTIcorp' has quickly gained the media's attention by announcing that it will soon be releasing it's most important product ever.
Enter 'Zoe Castillo'.. A collage dropout lacking motivation with an uncertain future, who's now living with her father in Casablanca.. When a close friend suddenly disappears, Zoe is drawn into a global conspiracy which takes her across the globe and beyond the divide !
Personally I really enjoyed playing though this title. 'Raynor Torquist's' story was well written, the controls were easy to master, whilst the camera never spoil the gameplay. The graphics looked great, and the voice acting was pleasantly helped along by 'Ellie Conrad-Leigh' (Zoe Casstillo) and 'Jack Angel' (robotic stuffed toy). Whilst 'Leon Whillet's' soundtrack was outstanding, earning him a nomination for 'Best Video Game Score' at the 2000 M.T.V Awards.
Gamers who played through the original game will probably welcome some old faces from the original game, but if you never played the first title, (like me).. everything makes sence and falls into place nicely.
The plots complex cliffhanger will definitely leave you wanting answers !
