Nothing real fancy here, just a good, long and fun adventure, even if a little repetitive.

User Rating: 8.2 | Drakengard 2 PS2
I played through the first Drakengard, and I have to say I never for one moment understood the story, but the game was downright fun, and that's all I needed. Fortunately, Drakengard 2 offered all of that AND an understandable story, not to mention the ability to play as different characters.

They did make some much needed improvements to the aerial battles as well. The dragon, Legna, pretty much handles the same as his predecessor from the previous game, but the enemies were made much quicker and more maneuverable, adding a dogfight-like style to the aerial battles, which in turn made them more fun and challenging. I remember loathing the aerial battle stages in the latter part of Drakengard 1, but those playing needn't worry about that in this installment.

The ground battles are pretty much the same, even using some of the enemy models from the previous game, but this time around you can use different characters in ground battles, and not for just limited amounts of time like the last game. Each character has their own stats and weapons to be used in battle, which comes in handy when one charcter is low on health and there are no healing items present. And each character plays well into the story of Drakengard 2, which only added the the enjoyment of the game.

For those who played the first Drakengard, this game is a sigh of relief, shedding the usual stigma and bad expectations that come with sequels of games that hardly reached mediocre popularity to begin with. This is one of those games you can just pop in, sit down, and have some fun.
