The FIrsts in a line of Classics

Dragon Warrior/Quest is probably the only RPG to compare to Final Fantasy. To see my full discussion look up my forum under general discussion.

Dragon Warrior being the first (duh) is a fairly short game compared to the second but it's still at least a ten hour game. The story begins in Tantagel when a young hero who claims to be the heir of Loto the great hero. Throughout the game you collect your ancestors junk in order to defeat Dracolord. the story is a bit lacking but the gameplay and dry humor make up for it. In the first gam the makers focused more on the landscape than the enemies so you'll find yourself fighting what looks like the same monster you just got done hammering and get yourself killed, because the only way to tell the difference between an Armknight and the Madknight is the color. During the battles the background reflects the area that the battle started in. This feature is exclusive with Dragon Warrior one. The other games have a wider variety of bad guys that look better and in the third game actually move. One on One battles make this game simpler than most RPG's, you only have to command yourself and only have to worry about the one enemy in front of you.

Dragon Warrior 2 takes forever!!!!! I'm not complaining, I mean I love the game but the world is huge and you (get to) explore the entire thing before you realize that the way to Hargon's fortress is right in front of your face. The monsters are more prolific and there's more of them than the first one and as a bonus you get two useless partners to help aid you in failing to stop Hargon(yes you fail it's part of the story) The prince and princess that aid you suck when first aquired but Erin(the princess) gets boom and firebane after a while and becomes invaluable. Frey get no good spells besides healall and healus so he becomes cannon fodder. When you sleep in this one inn he gets cursed and you have to save him. This is actually a fun side-quest you have to find the World Leaf before it's too late......

Overall these games were and are the rare gems of their day. back when FF2 sucked and FF1 was boring you had these to look to when times got tough. This collection gets a perfect ten in all aspects: graphics(I cut a little slack due to the time) music, story, gameplay, heck even the quirky humor never ceases to amuse me.
