A good RPG with a classic feel that can become a bit tedious

Dragon Quest VIII is an RPG that does most everything well and nothing excellent. This game definetely has an old school classic feel about it. The story is rather simply with only a few twists here and there, but mostly basic stuff. The quest is to break the curse on the king and his daughter and you are the "Hero" or "Guv" as most of your party members refer to you. This quest is a rather long one and toward the end I was just hoping for a conclusion. This game will take most gamers 65+ hours to complete. The graphics are cel shaded and work quite well for this type of game. The voice acting is done quite well but the sound gets to be pretty monotonous. The gameplay while basic is actually quite fun. When you level up you are given points that you can allocate to which ever weapon you prefer to use, making for slighty different play experiences. Also instead of really powerful spells you are given the ability to psyche yourself up for some really powerful attacks. Also you have the alchemy pot which you use to mix different items in order to make really powerful ones, this can be rewarding when you discover these new and improved items.
Overall DQVIII is a solid RPG that fans of the genre will enjoy but don't expect anything to wow you throughout this game.
