Dragon Age or Brag-On Age?... :))

User Rating: 2 | Dragon Age: Origins (Collector's Edition) PC
The greatest failure of the RPG world, no matter what some may lie themselves about.

Instead of better products on the market at the moment, you may tend to look this... thing... the other way, but...

Here are a few reasons why DAO has not passed the test of minimum decency for a 2009 RPG title:

1. Graphics - not much beyond a 2006 standard, if one skips the fact that "all colours go to brown"... A monochrome world where there's not much difference between a cloud of fog and a waterfall...

2. Story-atmosphere - Nice cinematics but they don't make up for the lack of a substantial story overall. All of a sudden you simply become a Grey Warden (do you have a choice? NO!) from a mere lordling pup and fly to save the world... Companions'personalities are overrated, you can't stop the deja-vu smell that another cliche rushly computer implemented romance is on the way... either the guy in shining armor or the charmy independent, semi-feminist witch... Side quests do not quite relate with the overall scenario, like some prefabricated bricks that don't macth into a certain type of wall... Lots of running in circles for settling what any other two-bit farmer hero could have accomplished anyway, having only been injected a plus of decency into his/hers irritant simulated personality...
Also, just forget full voice acting and the chimera that your main character could be more beyond another cliche "linguistically challenged" "hero"...

3. Gameplay - greatest failure starting with the old ruined D&D combat system which was okay for its time (if it ever was okay...)... Guys, you want a good combat system, check games like Oblivion, Gothic 2, Fable... There a block is a block and an attack is an attack! It relies on real time reflexes and good coordination, not fate! Systems where you can run and retreat not just kill or be killed... Life itself is more diverse, you know...
Loot system is also totally compromised, lots of uselesss junk to be had and carried arrround towards nowhere...

5. Replayability - funny indeed considering the illusion of replayability of a totally linear world, where you don't have many really strong choices (except who you crown as king, blah...). After one hour of playing this crap not worthy of even being entitled RPG game, I was already thinking about uninstalling it and go for something more dynamic and fun, although older, like Jedi Academy... :) ...

Conclusion: I won't advise you against buying this piece of garbage. It's your money after all. I only suggest you reconsider your prefferences about what a real RPG game could be...
