Addictive, exciting, simple

I haven’t stayed up far too late this often since X-Com came out.

This game is an outstanding translation of a card game onto a computer – it is fast, decision-point oriented, and gives a fantastic feel for aerial combat without having to replicate the laws of physics.

Sure it is limited in scope – but it intends to be so that is not a fault. And it is simple too – again intentionally. And the graphics aren’t super-photo-realistic.

But this game more than makes up for such “shortcomings” with genuine feel, game play, tension, angst, context and other often forgotten values.

I’ve been playing historical type wargames for over 30 years now, both on and off computers, and I have to say this one is the best. It’s easy to play, the role playing aspects are perfectly weighted against the historical/technical context, the technical details are very good.

I note other reviewers have commented about disconnects – I agree that these were a total pain in the butt and almost caused me to send the game back! But a couple of months down the track I , find technical hitches are few and far between
