A Classic Xbox Original Ported To Xbox 360, Holds Up Well and Still Packs A Punch

User Rating: 7.5 | DOOM 3 BFG Edition X360
Doom 3 was released for the original Xbox console in 2004, and that was when I first played the horror themed FPS and even then I loved it. Flash forward eight years, and my old Xbox original console swapped for the new Xbox 360 and I awaited the release eagerly of the port of the classic. I went and collected it the day of its release, after per-ordering it and the moment I started up my console the memories of 2004 flooded my mind again remembering playing this classic with my friends and navigating the dark corridors together waiting for the next scare to come.

The first thing obviously advertised prior to the release of this port, was that the classic was now updated to HD visuals and audio for the next gen console. This was what amazed me first, the old blurred graphics and visuals which were good at the time on the original Xbox were now up scaled and looked amazing.
The dark corridors and encounters in the darkness with enemy creatures looked startling, and still took me by surprise as did their moans and groans now enhanced audio wise.

Doom 3 still stands out as a classic FPS, but also as quite a strong horror theme game also as you collect ammunition, armor and other supplies in fear of being overwhelmed by the hellish enemies in the darkness. Doom 3 is a classic for anyone who played it back in the Xbox Original era, and remember it with love as much as other classics such as Max Payne.

For those who have never played Doom 3, its a simple science-fiction tale. As a space marine dispatched to a space station based on Mars, you discover those running the station have opened a doorway to hell and now the creatures from the dark red abyss have escaped and are killing every human they can find. Your mission is simple survival, but also to thwart the creatures chances of making their way to Earth to invade.
A simple story, but played out like other games such as F.E.A.R. through cut-scenes, recordings you collect and the dead you come across.

Doom 3 BFG Edition includes the original single-player campaign, as well as expansion pack Resurrection of Evil and another expansion pack The Lost Mission that adds more hours of game play.

The Good:

- Doom 3 in any form is a classic, and its been ported perfectly to the Xbox 360 with enhanced HD graphics, and sound.
- Doom 3 still stands out as a classic FPS, with horror themes that are still used in today's games.
- The creatures and enemies you face are varied; from floating one-eye creatures to the good old fashioned zombies.
- Weapons galore; with at least a dozen weapons you have a wide array of weapons to use for all situations from a Gatling gun to a Plasma Rifle.

The Bad:

- For those who have already played Doom 3 to their hearts content, may find this port lacking simply because they've played it enough already. This is for fans who actually want this port to Xbox 360.

Doom 3 BFG Edition is the perfect addition to a gamers collection, especially those with a love for the classic and FPS titles in general.
