Fun and some great ideas but ultimately lacking.

Like other reviewers have said, this game has a lot going for it, but it doesn't quite make it when compared to some of the other great games. There's some very good and original features in this game, but in other areas it simply doesn't cut it. I can't help but feel like it was somehow rushed. While this wasted potential is a shame, it might serve as an example to other games.

I enjoyed playing Distant Worlds, i have no doubt that many other grand strategy/4X fans would like it too. Some good features include the relative difficulty of getting your empire going, the general 'feel' of the galaxy and the possibility to automate a lot of the options. Some of the negative aspects would include the graphics (they're a bit choppy, though i generally didn't mind) and the in my opinion slightly simplistic underlying economy. Plus once your empire gets going the AI really doesnt stand a chance.

If you're a fan of the genre, this game is definitely worth a shot.
