Just another rally simulation?

After playing some of the earlier Collin McRae rally games this sounded to me like another simple rally championship game. But after the first races I saw that it's a lot more.

The first positive thing was the different race types - rally, crossover, rally cross, hillclimb and more. Some of which I never heard before (maybe because I'm not a real rally fan).

The graphics for a game from 2007 are great. The handling is also realistic and the damage impact on the handling are also nice. The varaiety of the cars makes it a bit unrealistic and not so interesting to get them all unlocked. And with time the different race types also start to bore the player.

The difficulty level offsets are a bit too wide. For example if you take rookie level you finish a minute before everyone else, if you take clubman level (the next) you finish a minute after everyone else.

Also somehow it lacks a real career mode. They just give you races which can be unlocked if you complete some races before it. No real championship career with seasons and podiums.

To say it in a few words - nice, but needs works. Let's see how's Dirt 2.
