You are Dig Dug just digging tunnels and battling meanies.

Dig Dug another arcade game that made it on to the Atari. Even with the poor graphics of the Atari this game was still a fun one to own and play.

Gameplay: Just like the arcade verision you manuvered Dig Dug around the screen creating tunnels. The screen was filled almost all the way oup and the more tunnels you created the more points you got. Sounds easy. Howerver at the same time you have to battle with meanies that have ghost powers that allow them to chase you all over the screen. Including through areas you have not cleared away yet.

Your defenses against the meanies are to either crush them with some rocks that are on the screen. But this is also a risky move on your part too because these same rocks can crush you. You also have a special air pump that allows you to blow up the meanies. Again becareful as you are pumping up the meanie you can not move and therefore are defenseless until you either stop pumping or blow the meanie up.

Graphics: This was a basic game without that much eyecandy. However there is some degradation on the Atari. Keep in mind that the Atari is one of the few systems out there that did offer a variety of games in color.

Sound: The same sounds from the aracade game.

Value: Since Dig Dug was also in arcades at the time it came out for the Atari it was worth having in your collection. It was single player game though. But this was a game to own if you want to collect decent games for the Atari.

Tilt: Dig Dug is actually a clone of Pacman. But there are some differences. For example in Pacman you have to clear the screen before you can move on. In Dig Dug once you have either killed all the meanies or they just simply leave the screen it is on to the next level.

This game was still fun to play. As many players would try their best to see how many different ways they could dispatch the meanies from the game. Also very few people were able to complete clear the screen and still have the meanies to deal with at the end.
