A true classic that I almost ignored.

After years of hearing about how amazing, addictive and truly classic this game is I finally broke down and bought it. I'm glad I did because it truly is a game that must be experienced be anyone who has ever had an interest in D&D rpgs, fantasy or anything of that nature. Honestly I never had so much fun feverishly clicking a mouse before. I see now why so many other games are compared to this Diablo 2 and it's predecessor. It really does pull you into it's story with it's memorable characters, great voice acting, beautiful music and deceptively simple gameplay. With so many character classes to chose from (thanks in part to the LOD expansion) you really do get a chance to play the game in the style that suits you best. Plus the huge array of weapons, varied skills and interesting spells makes sure things are always tense and exciting.

Being able to fashion your own weapons by adding gems and runes to them is exceptionally cool as well. Vanquished enemies will almost always drop some sort of item be it gold weapons armor gems or runes this "loot" is what really keeps you coming back for more and what encourages you to press on. What is dropped is so incredibly random you will constantly be picking up different things in the hopes of finding some rare item weapon or armor. Of course a lot of what is dropped is just pure junk but you'll always have to check. I think my favorite thing about the game is how dramatically your characters appearance changes when you equip the different weapons and armor. This may sound like a simple thing but it really adds a lot to the overall gamplay and makes you feel as though your character is evolving in a unique way as he moves throughout the game world and sinks deeper into the games dungeons.

There is a multiplayer element included with the game but I found it rather intimidating as it seemed to be filled mostly with seasoned players with very high level characters. I avoided it much in the same way I avoid WOW. I simply dont have that much time to spend playing unfortunately. And that's pretty much the bottom line when it comes to this game. It takes a long time to play it especially if you play on the higher difficultly settings but the obvious reward of this is the challenge it presents. This really becomes apparant when you die in the game because you then have to walk all the way back to the spot where you died inorder to reclaim all your stuff from your lifeless corpse which is both a creepy and nail biting experience. Althougth I spent many hours with game I never finished it but I know I will revisit it someday just to play as a different character and see if I can actually finish the game. It's a great dungeon crawling expericence which I highly recommend.
