Thought it was good...till I saw the others.

User Rating: 7.5 | Devil May Cry 2 PS2
Devil May Cry 2 was actually the first game in the series I bought. It sounded exciting, it looked exciting and when I played it, it WAS exciting. But in the end, it just gives a bad name to the series.

The story is that Dante, lone demon hunter, has lent his help to the local inhabitants of an isolated island to remove a corporate magnate, named Arius, who, not only destroying the island for it's resources, but has hired some unholy helpers plus summoning a long dead demon king to assist him.
The story is good, except when it involves Lucia, daughter of a wise woman and a playable character. With her, it seems there is some feeling of romance yet it cannot be clearly identified. Dante, however, seems to have been looking for trouble as their is no mention of his family, excepted for the revered title of "Son of Sparda". The gameplay is monotonous, with Dante executing a limited set of moves over and over again with his sword and double guns. The graphics are okay, yet due to some reason, when Dante runs up a street, space seems to bend a bit. The music is always gothic, except when Dante engages his enemies, which then rock & roll comes on. However the music is effective, giving you a sense of foreboding and danger. The sound effects could have been used on any other hack and slash game.

All in all, the game has a lot of room for improvement and hopefully the next in the series is not as bad.
