Destiny is a great multiplayer experience, especially with friends

User Rating: 7 | Destiny PS4

The basic joy of destiny comes from playing with friends. If you don’t have a lot of friends to play with online or aren’t into multiplayer first person shooter matches, you’ll probably be quick to dismiss this game. This game does have a good amount of exploration and missions to keep you occupied, but playing with friends increase this tenfold.

Story: 4/10

The story to destiny is lacking in many ways. It gets a good start in the tutorial with your guardian waking up after a long sleep and having a small floating robot known as a ghost wake you up in the future to reveal that monsters known as the fallen have invaded earth and several other parts of the solar system. Unfortunately, this goes completely nowhere and no part of the story is expanded on. There are a few other moments of story that stick out such as looking for the person who sent you a strange transmission and searching for the black garden, but these ultimately don’t do anything to bring you in and feel like you’re doing anything more significant than just progressing through a level.

Score: 7.5/10

The music heightens the intensity of play but there is nothing groundbreaking or particularly memorable.

Characters/Character Development: 2.5/10

Your guardian in particular has about 10 lines through the entire story, making them a completely wasted use of a protagonist. It would have been really nice to see more things like how he is adapting to this new world, especially if he has been asleep for an unknown amount of years. Your ghost can get on your nerves at times and isn’t engaging enough to deserve the spot of the character with the most dialogue. The only slightly interesting characters are the brother and sister in the reef (who may or may not be husband and wife also.)

Graphics: 10/10

Graphics here honestly do look very amazing and groundbreaking. Everything you see has nice and sharp detail to it.

Gameplay: 9.5/10

Gameplay here really is amazing. Multiplayer is a fun and engaging experience (even if there are currently only 6 maps to play on) and the control mission really have you using a good amount of strategy in order to win. Strikes are engaging enough to have you want to go through a lot of them, even if you may find yourself going through the same areas every now and then.

Difficulty: 8/10 (0 being the easiest, 10 being the hardest)

The main story quests are easy enough to beat the game with, especially if you have friends. However, several of the strikes and raids (especially the daily and weekly strikes) are going to require a high level and a lot of patience to get through.

Fun: 9.5/10

Destiny is just flat out a fun and enjoyable experience. It’s got everything you would want from a first person shooter and then some, and with consistent updates from destiny there will only be more enjoyable content as time goes on.
