Destiny: Broken dreams and false promises

They should change the name of this game to Destiny: Broken dreams and false promises.

I had high hopes for this games when I played the open beta, but my hopes were crushed after playing the full game. I have a level 5 Titan and a level 14 Warlock as of the writing of this review.

The game looks fantastic. Then environments and character models look great. The voice acting is also well done. The problem is, this game plays like a Halo/Borderlands inspired type game. The weapon and ammo drops are like Borderlands. Clearing an area then transitioning to the next area is also like Borderlands minus the witty humour.

The story is somewhat intriguing. Human explored the galaxy then got spanked by some ‘Darkness’ which is huge army of evil alien races rallied buy some nefarious force. The characters you meet in the game are pretty forgettable and don’t draw you in. I was pretty indifferent to my Warlock and Titan trainers/mentors. I didn’t care for them at all. The dialogue was boring and I just wanted to skip past it as quickly as I could.

The actual gameplay is fun…for a while. It is fast paced and you need to make use of the cover system which works well. The skill tress are decent, nothing ground breaking. You look forward to the new skills and abilities to help with the increasing difficulty. The game is VERY repetitive. Go here, kill X number of enemies, move on. Or activate these beacons….again. You also revisit the same maps over and over again. The game boils down to, travel, shoot, hide, collect loot, cash in quest, repeat. That’s it. I am also shocked at how quickly I leveled up so close to the level cap. I work full time and still had a chance to level up two characters.

This game had way too much hype. This is NOT a $60 game. This is a Steam $35 indie game at best. I have paid $9.99 for games a lot better than this on Steam. This game was thoroughly disappointing once I got past beta and got a better insight to the full game. This unfortunately is a pass. There are better Free to Play shooters on Steam.
