6 hours and a few jumps later comes my review of Dementium The Ward
If you like horror or FPS on the DS you need to play this game.
It has great controls, good graphics, and some jumps and scares. If they turn this into a series it may just be one of the best series on the DS. Well worth playing. But here is why i only gave it a 7.5. The reasons why the game just fell short of a great game.
1.) Respawing enemies. You leave the room after killing spree, come back and they are back.
2.) The enemy sounds are for the most part annoying. Also you can hear every enemy long before you see them so you know whats coming. Wish they would be silent at times and jump out at you.
3.) the buzzsaw weapon. The buzzsaw is awesome. no ammo to worry about and you just buzz away. However, the sound the thing makes has me barely using it. They should have it it toggle on and off like the flashlight. Than we could walk with it out not driving us crazy from the buzzing of the saw.
4.) Story. There is a story but it isn't told very well. And you aren't even sure if what you think happened really happened. You don't know why there are zombies and monsters in this hospital. And you never see another person so you have to assume all this blood on the walls came from patients of the hospital. The ending of the game doesn't help wrap up the story or explain whats going on at all. Maybe they wanted it to be that way. But as a gamer i would like some explaination of some sort of what i just played through.
5.) Replayability. The game doesn't give the player any reason to pick it up again after beating it. No multiplayer. No unlocked new items to use a second round. No harder difficulty to try. Nothing, zilch, zip. It was a fun game and glad i played it through but probably won't play it again.
6.) Music. The music sounds good and is fitting. But it is always playing. Would have liked it to stop at times and all i could hear were my foot steps and heart beat. Makes the player think something bad is about to happen.
