exciting at first but quickly tails off into frustration

I purchased dead to rights in spite of the mediocre reviews emanating from the game review media. The reason is that several of the reviews mentioned its simplicity and being a fan of old-school game schemes I believed that this might appeal to my style of video game. My initial reactions were one of joy. I marched through the first areas shooting everything in sight. After a few more minutes I started using my dog much more. The dog is just a auto-tracking misslle that instantly kills most opponents. The slo-mo button was my next focus but I found it redundant even with being able to jump directly into the villians for an instant kill. The number one problem, however, is the camera. It gets caught and that makes your character unable to target the computer player. Speaking of the targeting it can also be troublesome. It sometimes targets inanimate objects at inopertune times instead of the people with the guns which leads to some flailing on the buttons to try to get it to retarget. What also bothered me is the wild swings of difficulty. At times you plow through your enemies while other times your overwhelmed by a boss with a few cronies and your pinned in the corner rationing your life and armour. Mind you it is not all bad. The graphics are a plus. The sound with the headphones are great (by the way if you can invest in some noise cancelling head phones, they are amazing). But overall its like it can't make up its mind what it wants to be. Does it want to be doom or does it want to be splinter cell?
