Dead Space 3 is a somewhat fitting finale to what started as a deep space horror series

Once you are a fan of a series, it is hard not to buy their newest installment, despite the negativism that surrounds most. Constructive criticism is great and a good developer always listens to what could have made the game better, and in turn – sold more copies. But we, as gamers, should also remember that it is very hard to topple an original idea or a game, as a series progresses. It is impossible to create a better Bioshock game, it is impossible to create a better Mass Effect game and it was certainly impossible to create a better Dead Space installment, after the first one. So let's keep that in mind when playing Dead Space 3, which is a great game on its own right.

Story
As most of you know, Isaac Clarke is an engineer, caught in the midst of a necromorph infestation and his own past. The story starts where Dead Space 2 left off – Isaac Clarke continues his journey for further discovering his past and how it was tied to the prominence of The Markers and the religion surrounding them – Unitology. Dead Space 3 gives Isaac a little help during his quest in the form of a hired soldier called Carver, who can be a part of a co-op playthrough if so desired. Depending on whether you are alone or as a duo, the story line slightly alters and there are several co-op missions, which become available for completion. Side missions are present in this installment and I have to confess that they are pretty well done – all have a small backstory to them and not just a bunch of boring fetch quests. The storyline takes us to abandoned space stations and finally to the Marker's frozen homeworld. 8/10

Graphics
Visceral Games stayed true to immaculate graphical presentation. For a series like Dead Space, lighting and visual effect play an important role in the overall vibe and Dead Space 3 provides more of the same. We also witness stunning deep space visuals and near perfect character models. 9.5/10

Sound/Voice Acting
As with graphics, sound effects plays a vital role in this series. The sense of loneliness and dread around Isaac is best portrayed through ambient, almost desolate sound design. Atmosphere is top notch once again! 10/10

Gameplay
There are two big innovations that Dead Space 3 brings. As an engineer, Isaac is given a lot of flexibility into crafting his own weapons. There are literally hundreds or more different possibilities of how the player can customize or build weapons. Mastering it require some time and effort, but once you learn it, it will provide breadth of fresh air. The sheer possibilities of approaching a particular enemy with a different weapon and see how it works out will make you come back for a re-play for sure. The second big introduction to the series is the co-op mode. As I already mentioned, you can play through the campaign with an online buddy, which changes the dialogue and the side mission availability. I haven't tried the game in a co-op mode, so anything more than that would be just guessing. 8.5/10

Overall
Dead Space started as a horror game and the very first game was outstanding. The graphics, the atmosphere and the story stayed true throughout the whole series, despite the fact it ended up being more action/shooter oriented. It came to no surprise, that this decision was made on the grounds of "shooters sell more copies and horror games are a hard sellers". Having said that, we have to remember that it is very hard to better the very first, introductory game to a series with a sequel. As a series, Dead Space is another quality addition to any gamer's collection and Dead Space 3 ties all ends in a nice fashion . 8/10
